Support from management

Management is rarely around, when they are they are criticizing and micromanaging. Constantly change their minds about what is expected and wanted.

Teamwork

Museum director is great at micromanaging and telling you everything your doing wrong. even if it's what you were told to do.

Freedom to work independently

Heck no, for 11 years i was able to, within the last year the director has become a terrible micromanager, horrible to work with, impossible to please

Internal Communication

I was constantly talked to about communication. Management never communicates with staff. We are expected to read minds and sadly that is not a skill i possess.

Gender Equality

NOPE, we had two maintenance workers, one male one female, same age. For some reason the male worker makes more than the female doing the exact same job, starting on the exact same day.

Attitude towards older colleagues

My supervisor will work with volunteers and is pleasant to their face, but talks about them behind their back to whoever will listen. you will not feel welcome.

Career Development

No room for advancement, continuing education, growth. If you get a $.25 raise a year your LUCKY.

Overall compensation for your work

No raises, no overtime, no heath insurance. Your expected to do the work of a full time employee with out any of the benefits. CFM truly takes advantage of their employees.

Office / Work Environment

extremely hostile, supervisors gossip about employees to employees, volunteers, visitors, or to anyone else who will listen. Its hot in the summer and cold in the winter. Strong smell of gas from tractors.

Environmental Friendliness

LMAO no, CFM is not a green company

Work-Life Balance

I was always expected to cover events even last minute anytime my boss wanted time off. (2-3 months total/year) this is because of illness, injury, vacations, or personal time. I missed wedding of friends and even my own college graduation covering for other staff.

Company Image

Great place to hang out, terrible place to work!

Job Security

As long as the director likes you, your fine. She is all over the place though and changes her mind regularly.

Handicapped Accessibility

yes!

Challenging Work

Challenging in that you never know what is expected of you. Supervisor is hard to read and never around to ask.

Inclusive / Diverse

Ideas of the director/manager are the only ones that matter. If you give ideas they will be turned down unless management can spin them to be their own idea so they get all the credit.

Suggestions for improvement

  • find new management who is less cruel and who won't gossip about employees and volunteers behind their back. anyone around the director is fair game, 12 year girls who volunteer to 85 year old senior citizens to any staff member. If you have contact with the boss you will be gossiped about to anyone and everyone who will listen. Since the board of directors wouldn't address this issue, I left. There is no need for that kind of hostility at anyone's work place especially a nonprofit where you make next to nothing.

What I like about the company

They were fun to work for for the first 11 years, the last year of my employment, my manager became cruel. not very community oriented anymore.

What I dislike about the company

No benefits provided, raises were scarce. The worst was having a supervisor who would gossip and talk behind my back regarding my physical appearance. Talking to other staff members, volunteers, and even visitors. It was so embarrassing and the board of director's, who should have put an end to this, decided to not address it because it was to controversial.

Support from management

Management changes expectations constantly, can never please or get help...terribly unorganized

Teamwork

Volunteers are taken advantage of and not appreciated, staff and volunteers leave repeatidly because of cruel and unconsiderate manager

Freedom to work independently

Used to, but at the end i was micromanaged on EVERYTHING. Nothing got done, it was aweful.

Internal Communication

I constantly was talked to about communication, but management had the real problem with communication. I never knew when dates were changed or when expectations were changed. I was expected to read minds and sadly that is not one of my skills

Gender Equality

Males tend to make more...at least lower down the ladder...a female maintenance worker for some eeason makes less than a male maintenance worker

Attitude towards older colleagues

Older volunteers are appreciated to their face, but talked about terrivly behind their backs

Career Development

Careers go nowhere...if you get a $.25 raise a year your LUCKY...no benefits...no room for growth...no possibilites for advancement or continuing education

Overall compensation for your work

LMAO Can you say minimum wage!!

Office / Work Environment

Out of date technology, hot in the summer, cold in the winter, smells like gas from tractors and farm machinery

Environmental Friendliness

LMAO not at all! Definitely not a green company

Work-Life Balance

I was constantly expected to cover events for my boss. She was always taking time off for something or another..i worked ever saturday for 12 years with the exception of maybe 5...miss paries, weddings and even my own college graduation...time off is hard to comeby when staff is so small and there is noone to cover you.

Company Image

I was for the first 11 years. Now im embarrassed by yhem

Job Security

You have a job as long as the director lukes you and continues to take a couple months off each year

Handicapped Accessibility

Yes, usually!

Challenging Work

Work isnt hard...keeping manager happy is...deciphering what she has decided vs. What the board has decided is a joke...my boss cut my hours, but the board expected me to work more...communication between staff and board of directors is pathetic to say the least

Inclusive / Diverse

What the director wants goes...any outside ideas are frowned upon..esp if they take away from the directors credit...she need to be praised and let everyone know how successful she is making the place...even when its because of others...

Suggestions for improvement

  • New management who is positive and doesnt verbally attack staff members publically.

What I like about the company

Used to be fun, lots of different events going on.

What I dislike about the company

No benefits...i was expected to work full (36hours) time with no insurance and minimal pay. I was treated poorly and talked anout behind my back to visitors and staff by my supervisor regarding my physical appearance...it was so embarrasing and rude i left the company. Gossip is not okay especially by the boss. The board of directors didnt want to address the issue because it would cause too much trouble for them, so i quit.
