I like about the employer
It was a job when I needed one but I am glad I do not work with them anymore.
I dislike about the employer
Two years as a contractor and no direct job offer. Corning Inc does not seem to have any interest in binging on controls technicians as permanent employees. Expendable. No realistic training for the job at the Diesel facility. Mr. M.R. (engineering manager) is more concerned with breakfast(slurping down bacon and eggs) than with what is going on in the plant. They have rediculously high turnover in this position because it does not pay well(degreed technicians make as much as union manual laborers) and the hours(12 hour swing shift) is not favorable or healthy. They will pay you 20-25 dollars an hour and expect overtime after the 12 hour shift if machinery is down. Controls technicians do not get any holidays off. The controls technician is pretty much the bitch for engineering so they can sleep at night while the technician is working. IT always wants you to do their job. Good luck if you need engineering support at 2am while operations is breathing down your back the whole time. And then the am meeting with operations and management to explain what went wrong the night before. The position does not pay well enough for what they expect, they pretty much want an overnight engineer but labeled as a tech and payed accordingly. The job sucks, I don't recommend it to anyone.
