The culture was great up until the new manager took over. He did not like promoting honesty and punished employees for answering questions as so.
Support from management
Planning the store setup was the only help that I have every received from management.
The only kind of teamwork the new manager involved himself in was one that would benefit the company.
Freedom to work independently
The only time I had freedom to work independently was when the manager had his "friend" in the office. Other than that, he was just about breathing down your neck at the register.
The manager specifically did not communicate appropriately because I think he had other motives for the company. Seems like he was trying to push all current employees out of the door.
It seemed that shortly after the manager had cleaned house, he was looking for a certain "type" of employee.
Attitude towards older colleagues
If you consider the manager an older colleague, then yes.
No room for growth with this company unless you suck up to managers.
Overall compensation for your work
Pay was minimal but hours are fair.
Office / Work Environment
After the new manager came in, the work environment was left with a feeling of foreboding.
As far as environmental Friendliness goes, I can assure you that it was all fake.
When I first started, there was a lot of flexibility and sharing of schedules to make home life work. After the new manager was hired, that all went away very quickly. There were set and strict schedules.
Looks great from the outside, doesn't it?
I would still be working there if there was job security. Hours were steady though.
Shelves were mostly too high but any employee could help assist if need be.
As far as safety goes, everything was mostly safe. Just as long as we don't count the rickety shelf in the back office.
Work was not challenging at all. Things were pretty much easygoing when it came to setting up and decorating for events.
Inclusive / Diverse
It was diverse when I first started, but only because the current manager hadn't fired all of us yet.
Suggestions for improvement
- Management replacement.
What I like about the company
I like that it had the potential to be a creative space and I really enjoyed the employee discount.
What I dislike about the company
I was highly disappointed with the treatment of employees. I feel like I was discriminated against because of my appearance. Tattoos, piercings, hair color, etc.
