When I interviewed I asked about the company culture and was told that they have a Christmas potluck. After accepting the position, I quickly found out why she said this as it became apparent that there was little to no company culture present.
Support from management
There is support from the department head, but individuals are not encouraged to ask when the head of the department is always busy.
Almost none. The head of the department treated everyone like children. Everything had to go through the head of the department for cleadance. People were discouraged from asking colleagues for help who had been there for years. There did not seem to be a lot of faith or trust in the individual's work.
Freedom to work independently
A lot of the work is done indepently.
There is a lot of communication about issues, priorities, but not always helpful communication.
One way up and no other options.
Overall compensation for your work
The pay was the only thing desireable about the position. It is soul-killing work.
Office / Work Environment
Gray cubicles and no team collaboration.
Waste a lot of paper printing mundane items.
Work life balance is fine when you are in the office, but goes out the door when you get an assignment and are scrambling and skipping lunch to book flights, prepare reports, and do your normal daily tasks. Some assignments had me working 11 hour days.
Loan company. I think that sums up how people perceive an individual working there.
The work is only challenging in the sense of volume, not difficulty.
Inclusive / Diverse
I feel that the department I worked in was not very diverse or inclusive. The receptionist was very kind and had a unique personality, but everyone else blended in with the crowd. Creative input or insight is not encouraged. You are told to find the answer with the tools available.
Suggestions for improvement
- Having a company culture can be a positive. Trust the employees you hire to make educated decisions. Allow more collaboration.
What I like about the company
The pay is good, some of the employees are very sweet, kind, and helpful.
What I dislike about the company
Volume of work, lack of collaboration, lack of trust in tenure employees.
