- Crown Cork & Seal Usa, Inc.22.Dec 2015
The company makes a mockery of hardworking employees while enjoying the benefits of high productivity and sales at local levels NEVER giving back any appreciation or incentives to those that make it possible.
Support from management
Local leadership was amazing until they made drastic changes and ended up with the blind leading the blind, which I am sure contributed the closure of this location. My local up line of management was phenomenal with support, training and transparency. Corporate leadership, however, is ridiculous. There are so many titles to provide so little plant support or answers for anything. Corporate management makes their priorities and targets for the plants very clear, sometimes without taking the time to listen to those who know better how to improve processes. If you do not have the right title and about 20 years of experience they are very hesitant to listen to you. Even if that means the 20 years of experience is inundated, they will go with that knowledge. It is a draining place to work for high achievers and innovative thinkers. They put you in a box and don't let you out unless you play the corporate game.
I had a great team locally. Corporate is completely disconnected from the local team needs.
Freedom to work independently
This would be my largest complaint. Crown expects you to do the work of three for part time pay of one. They over load their good workers while retaining employees because they have been there who drain team morale and are allowed to skate by receiving annual raises and any thing else the hard workers get.
They will tell you everything after the fact.
Women, minorities and youth can forget being treated fairly or with respect or equality in decision making for promotions, transfers or increases. It does not matter if you work their and do the job successfully, they will still bring in someone who you will have to train and often continue to do the work for that fits in the "good old boys" club.
Attitude towards older colleagues
They value loyalty.
If you are willing to push them to acknowledge your desire for career development and have local support you can get great skills and training. You will need to be determined and persistent.
Overall compensation for your work
If this were just based upon benefits I would give five stars, but they do not go by industry standard rates for anything! They go by your previous salary, even for outside applicants and do not want to go over a 10% increase. They also try their hardest to keep all compensation structure, calculations and guidelines top secret. Once I started to speak with colleagues I easily found great disparities between women and men working in comparable roles with comparable experience.
Office / Work Environment
Don't expect modern technology or resources, but it is by far not the worst and with the right teams we made the most out of what we had.
Most that I have seen have access for disabled.
As an organization it seems to be promoted well and expectations made clear. At a local level I can say it was always priority and management made certain everyone understood safety before production in everything.
You will get bored easily if you are someone who likes to think outside of the box and be more strategic and proactive than tactical and reactive.
Inclusive / Diverse
Diversity is not something on their radar. There is so little diversity within this organization, especially at the management level and above. It is not really tolerated well either, side comments and private parties make you believe you have stepped into a time warp.
Suggestions for improvement
- Work on developing better communication to employees and develop your employees into what you need. That will bring loyalty that will allow you to have better output from your workers.
What I like about the company
I liked that I had the opportunity to learn things and expand my professional horizons beyond what I may have been able to at any other organization. Because they keep staff to a minimum I learned almost every function in order to fill in so I am able to adapt well to changes in need at other organizations. The health benefits were completely amazing. They had full coverage for employee premium and the rates for in-network were very low. They also had a very good retirement contribution rate and stock purchase plan.
I enjoyed my colleagues that I worked with on a daily basis. We made the most out of what we had to work with and built really great working relationships.
What I dislike about the company
There was not enough transparency and little to no effort to remain innovative and recruit the top talent.
