The company's culture
Support from management
Real expectations are not set by management. Management needs to take staff into consideration and step in when necessary. Employees are rarely involved in any decision making processes by management unless it has to do with benefits. There are the same amount of managers as there are staff, and they wonder why nothing gets done. There are not enough "do-ers", a term spoken by management.
The energy amongst the team at Cvent is great. The company culture and the people are the best part about working at Cvent. Colleagues are encouraged to work with one another, and strong bonds are created.
Freedom to work independently
Employees are trusted to work independently, even interns. However, this is not such a great thing because some people do not get the necessary work done which then causes someone else do it. Management does not do much enforcing and does not offer training to those who may need it.
The company has a high level of communication. Always informing employees about the business, and even other employees whether it be birthdays, promotions, or farewells.
Much of senior management is women. Women are treated equally at Cvent.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Older workers are hired by the company but most of the office is young. It's almost like being in college again. Many "college students" and very little "professors". I personally only saw older people being hired for management positions. Young people did get hired for management positions too, but I rarely saw older people at the staff level.
Cvent does not encourage or assist with furthering education. Cvent will pay for special training seminars for employees but that is a rare occasion.
Overall compensation for your work
Work ethic and responsibilities are NOT compensated with salaries and benefits. Not even close. Cvent does not match 401k contributions, Medical/Dental is decent, and there is an average amount of PTO given. Salary employees (on the finance team) get taken advantage of because people work 55+ hours/week, plus most holidays and some weekends with no comp day available. The work is not very challenging but it is extremely manual, making it take time to get work done, and there is much to be done. Finance team has interns doing staff accountant work because there isn't enough staff members on the team, so interns are being taken advantage of (monetarily), as well. Now, there are other benefits like a ping pong table in the office, free coffee and hot chocolate, free soft drinks and meeting lunches, and a keg in the office (that is rarely used).
Office / Work Environment
While the office environment is comfortable, the work environment is lacking automation. You'd think a SaaS company would have better technology for employees, right? Well that's not the case here.
Cvent does a lot to give back, and there is a recycling clothes and hardware system. There are recycling bins around the office but the use of them is not encouraged. The company also wastes tons of food.
There is no "peer pressure" to work more hours, it is mandatory. The accounting team does not follow holidays and summer hours like the rest of the departments. If you only work the normal 45 hours/week, you will be suggested to come in earlier or leave later.
The company is growing very fast and becoming more known. Much said about the company is great, so I am proud I worked for the company because of how it is viewed by outsiders. I am not proud I worked for the company that I knew on the inside.
Everyone's job was stable before the acquisition. People rarely lose their job at Cvent. The turnover rate is high because people don't want to be there any longer, not Cvent letting go of people. Everyone's job on the finance team was stable because there wasn't anyone to let go. The entire finance and accounting team only had
There is a ramp and an elevator in the SAIC building. Using the elevator to go between the 3 floors Cvent occupies is also an option. Using the data watch card and opening the door in time would be pretty tricky in a wheel chair or on crutches though.
The work environment is safe. There is training provided by the company and by the building.
The work was not challenging at all. However, it is very manual and unorganized.
Inclusive / Diverse
The company supports diversity and the office is pretty diverse.
