It is a dog eat dog environment. Not conducive for a productive work environment. Employees never know when the boss is going to blow up!
Support from management
Absolutely no support from upper management. They are always looking to throw somebody under the bus to protect themselves.
The employees under my supervision were great. They cared about doing a good job. The good work that they did was very rarely recognized by upper management.
This is probably the worst category of the bunch. Upper management tends to keep important tidbits to themselves to use when the time is right to tear down an employee.
Women do NOT have the same opportunities as men
There were no chances for improvement or training. You have to figure it all out on your own. Sink or swim, they only care if you don't get it right
Overall compensation for your work
Benefits were on par, compensation was low but always on time
Office / Work Environment
It's the company 1st, period! They will say different but when the chips are down, it will be demanded that you sacrifice all plans, vacations, anniversaries, birthdays, etc... For the good of the company.
The company provides an invaluable service! The image of working there is not the reflection of reality however.
I am no longer there. The company is stable but there were an instance of a long time employee (35 years +) being let go with 3 years left with the company.
They are slowly implementing some safety training programs. It's hard to get employees on board when upper management doesn't follow procedure.
There were a lot of tasks and ideas that I felt really good about only to have them torn down by upper management. I would end up feeling like a total failure for having an idea.
Inclusive / Diverse
If the idea is from upper management of corporate then it is golden. If it's from anyone else it is a stupid idea
Suggestions for improvement
- Restructure of the company culture from the top down. Of course every business is in it for a profit. A good company can treat their employees with respect and dignity and make a decent profit. Darling ingredients is not one of those companies. Darling is profit first, second and third on the priority list. The equipment that Darling uses gets a lot more respect that the employees. It's sad, as it doesn't have to be that way, they choose to do it that way.
What I like about the company
They did provide lunch for office employees almost every day
What I dislike about the company
By legal definition, working at Darling was a hostile work environment. The upper management team was abusive, withheld information for me to effectively do my job, ignored questions and did what they had to do to look good at all costs. I would NOT recommend this company to anyone looking for work.
