Overall a great place to work. Facilities need updating, some favoritism at play. Good benefits and compensation.
Deaconess has a great "we're all in this together" culture that I think does a great job at promoting teamwork and unity. There is definitely a culture of accountability and transparency among staff and administration alike. The downside is that there is also a culture of favoritism unrivaled by any other place I have worked. Certain people become "Deaconess darlings" and you then see things like a nurse with less than a year's experience moved to a management position on a higher acuity floor.
Suggestions for improvement
- A more flexible sick policy, increased PTO, nicer facilities. Extended cafeteria and dietary hours for both staff and patients.
What I like about the company
I have worked for Deaconess for almost 10 years. Pay is competitive, benefits are good. Low turnover as an organization although department turnover is higher. Educational reimbursement is great. Opportunities in a variety of settings and positions with the ability to advance.
What I dislike about the company
Facilities are outdated, although construction is ongoing. There is a "the customer is always right" mentality that has not place in healthcare. Favoritism rampant among hospital management, sometimes leading to innappropriate promotions.
