Toxic culture - backstabbing, gossipping, name-calling - and this was by management and not my co-workers
Support from management
Top heavy - wanted results but did not give tools to achieve results. It was more about blame than support
Employees were pitted against one another - we weren't even allowed to lunch together.
Freedom to work independently
No one had any say - "my way or the highway" mentality
We had regular meetings to hear how bad we were doing
It was all women for the most part - very few men work there or attend classes
Attitude towards older colleagues
Older workers hired over younger
No room for advancement or training
Overall compensation for your work
Salaries were low and there were often issues with receiving pay on time. Benefits were terrible.
Office / Work Environment
computers outdated, desks were flea market finds, chairs were broken down
Lots of pressure to work early and late and attend outside events (at no pay)
Bad image - nepotism ran rampant. Anyone not a family member was not happy.
Threatened often with loss of job. Told to keep a cardboard box under my desk and to be ready to pack my things.
No. not for workers or students.
We didn't have any type of fire drills while I was there, there were hand drawn "maps" of nearest exit. Did not feel safe at all.
The only challenge was dealing with management
Inclusive / Diverse
NO! management stuck in backwards era - not at all inclusive, racist at times and very bigoted
Suggestions for improvement
- Remove the family. The nepotism in the Covington and Slidell locations fosters this toxic culture.
What I like about the company
The actual work was enjoyable. I liked working with the students and helping them reach their goals.
What I dislike about the company
The culture was set up to be "cut-throat" and the atmosphere was so negative. Management often discussed religion, race, sex, etc. and it was always in a discriminatory way. One had to keep their mouth shut and just agree.
