As a Ramp Supervisor positive feedback to staff is one of the few tools you have to reward those that step up to help the team complete goals. There will not be much positive feedback for the Supervisor.
Support from management
Staff is low paid, expectations are very high which leads to constant turnover.
Staff does a fairly good job working as a team despite the adverse conditions of the job.
Freedom to work independently
As a ramp Supervisor you are expected to complete all work every day in understaffed conditions.
There will not be much communication for success and none for profit. Negative communication will be swift however.
You will have the same opportunity regardless of gender.
Attitude towards older colleagues
This work is strenuous. Older employees leave voluntarily.
there are not many positions above and they do not open very often so in some sense advancement will be limited.
Overall compensation for your work
This company was formed to reduce costs for the airline. The goal was low paid non union employees with some benefits.
Office / Work Environment
You should expect harsh working conditions but these are not the fault of the employer. You are working on an airport ramp. The noise level of jet aircraft, heat in the summer, cold, snow, ice, rain and extremely tight schedules are the order of every day.
This is mostly non applicable. The industry is governed by strict federal rules and standards.
Airlines run on schedules and suffer FAA fines for deviation from schedules so your schedule will be of secondary importance to the company.
Low pay hard work does not usually lead to employees talking fondly about the company.
As long as you are capable of physically performing the job you will not have to worry about losing it unless you violate rules or the law. If you lose your security clearence you lose your job with it.
The company is strictly covered by FAA and OSHA regulations due to the dangerous enviroment. Training is provided and you will not be cleared to work until you successfully complete it.
You will be working in a sometimes harsh enviroment, under a tight deadline while being understaffed to keep costs low. Every day you successfully complete the work will be something you should be proud of.
Inclusive / Diverse
The company does not promote diversity to achieve goals but they do not discriminate and have a diverse workforce.
What I like about the company
What I dislike about the company
The bottom line is the only line. A full staff is marginally enough to complete all the work. When staff call out sick they are not replaced. You are required to complete all the work regardless.
