Suggestions for improvement

  • I would make my pay better and be able to privately make a grievance when needed.

What I like about the company

I'm able to do what I love while helping the community in a positive and flexible environment. There are always training opportunities.

What I dislike about the company

I don't think the state should contract with private companies to do my job. There are politics in the office that takes away from doing my job as well.

Suggestions for improvement

  • It would be great to increase travel because there’s so much wear and tear on your personal vehicle. Providing just gas money is not sufficient for this position.

What I like about the company

I enjoyed my time with DFPS because I was able to assist children and caregivers and avoid/prevent future abuse and/or neglect from occurring.

What I dislike about the company

DFPS should employ supervisors who don’t micromanage their team. This makes it difficult to perform.

Suggestions for improvement

  • I would fire all case managers and have them all reapply. Then I would open the door to new outside applicants as well as applicants from current caseworkers. There would be a lot of case managers who would not get their jobs back. I’d make reports of harassment go straight to Austin. They wouldn’t be handled at the site any more. This would remove any chance of clicks ganging up on a caseworker who is trying to grieve a case manager.

What I like about the company

I made a boatload of money on overtime. I was personally fulfilled with my career. I got to learn how to use all the latest tech gadgets because the state wanted its employees to use technology on site.

What I dislike about the company

DFPS is full of back stabbing people who will betray you and set you up for failure in order to fast track their career. Their are clicks in management that gang up on employees that are not well liked and treat them badly until they quit. The good ‘ol boy system is alive and in use in DFPS. You will find this all rampant in Austin, Temple and Killeen. You will get objections with Austin because the higher ups will demand names. If you give them my name they will state I was released from duty due to seizures and migraines. This doesn’t make me ignorant of the situation. The associate commissioner too played a part in the click of the management. The politics that is played in DFPS is thick. Caseworkers might as well be calling the governor for child placement themselves he (the governor) has his fingers in the business so intricately. When any problems arise you can definitely blame the Governor because he knows all about it.
