- Department of Military and Veterans Affairs26.Feb 2019
Most of the time the team worked well together. Difficulties arose at time due to generational differences or changes implemented by leadership without them having knowledge of the work that occured in the area.
Support from management
Some managers wanted conflict to be occuring. Maybe they thought it would be easier to manipulate staff if there was conflict in the department.
Freedom to work independently
Sometimes leadership would allow staff to work independently and make decisions but then at other times would dictate everthing that went on. Employees never sure of where they stood.
Leadership did not always comminicate with non-leadership
More often if you were a minority
If there is money in the budget
Overall compensation for your work
Nursing is not always a good work life balance.
Work involved health care of clients. Errors could result in clients death.
Inclusive / Diverse
Depends on the mood of management.
Suggestions for improvement
- Quick treating employees different and giving certain groups special attention and priveledges. Also that management would be more transparent.
What I like about the company
The clients that you care for are amazing. It was a honor to care for veterans. Co-workers were wonderful and like a second family. Very supportive as well.Opportunities to receive awards and incentives for obtaining certifications and positive write-ups from management.
What I dislike about the company
The uncertainity of working for a government institution. Will you have a budget? Never knowing if you will receive a cost of living raise. All depends on political climate in Washington DC
