Suggestions for improvement

  • I'd love an onsite daycare. Also, making sure that employees at the same paygrade have an even share of work instead of the lopsided workloads we currently have.

What I like about the company

My company offers great opportunities for advancement. Within two years, I've held five positions, each better than the last. Management is fair and helpful.

What I dislike about the company

The only part of my job I can really complain about is that we've recently changed to a looser structure where not everyone is held accountable for their work. This has caused some employees' workloads to increase while other employees do less, but no one is being held responsible for dropping the ball.

Company Culture

Top-down fear mentality around workforce here! Very depressing place =(

Support from management

I only put three starts because some managers shone above above the rest!

Teamwork

Silently hostile type-of feeling - probably due to constant pressure and micromanagement\fear of management

Freedom to work independently

Revenue is a highly regulation-oriented job - but management takes it to another level that takes most if not all the wind out of a professional's sails!

Internal Communication

Little if any - most often a lot of "titfortat" type of peer retaliation - passive aggressive attitudes abound!

Gender Equality

There are more women in management at lower levels in the Audit Bureau than Compliance - which is dominated by men! The women at the top very rarely interact - often appear mostly cold and calculating.

Attitude towards older colleagues

It depends if you reached management or not. I saw entry level older colleagues treated very unprofessionally and felt badly how on edge they constantly felt - it was like they were never good enough for upper management who kept increasing the performance standards. Younger agents pitted themselves against older agents if they felt they were doing "faster" work - older agents became defensive of their work and it was sometimes hard to collaborate as a result.

Career Development

A lot to learn about taxation and policy - not so much about work etiquette or mentorship for collections side of things - very petty - in Compliance Bureau.

Overall compensation for your work

Decent compensation for state work!

Office / Work Environment

A lot of introverts is a given in the field of numbers and tax accounting. So, very quiet, sometimes awkward for newcomers!

Environmental Friendliness

Recycling bins used for garbage

Work-Life Balance

Tough for parents - a lot of things count as 'occurrence' and result in probation.

Company Image

I heard a lot of bad things about working there from University of Wisconsin employees. They warned me it was a strange work place - I didn't listen!

Job Security

Good job security if you can get all right tick marks checked and like that sorta very controlled work environment quota atmosphere.

Handicapped Accessibility

I am not handicapped, but seemed to meet minimum standards.

Workplace Safety

I felt safe there for the most part!

Challenging Work

Not very challenging work for Compliance bureau - Much different work though for auditors and upper management.

Inclusive / Diverse

Strive to hire minorities and women - but the atmosphere isn't necessarily supportive of them once they are hired.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Change upper management! Make drastic changes in workplace culture to increase retention rates and long-term employee satisfaction. The department needs to attract younger workers - and not just hire older people who won't get much of a pension. Stop redundant tick mark quotas and focus on quality, effective work - Upper management needs to let supervisors do their jobs!

What I like about the company

Very good training in taxation policy - very thorough and extensive. This place is full of professionals who shine in their respective areas of expertise!

What I dislike about the company

Upper management does not create an atmosphere of professional respect and parents are not given ample flexibility for needs of their families if they don't get a family-friendly supervisor. Policies are openly and knowingly applied arbitrarily from unit to unit and some supervisors definitely get away with being less family friendly.

Company Culture

Poor attitudes between supervisors, poor training and no manual to assist with understanding the process of assisting taxpayers, too many chiefs and leadership is so mis- managed and the abuse of power is overwhelming.

Support from management

Just do it and it might not be correct but get it done. If it is wrong, it can be fixed.

Teamwork

You could have a better time if management would allow the missing link of peers to bring you up to date on assisting taxpayers all the same way.

Freedom to work independently

Micro manage is the norm is reason why things looks so confused.

Internal Communication

You are given based on need or the area of needed. Management do not rely messages via email in case you are out (vacation/sick). You hear if based on mistakes.

Gender Equality

special treatment for males in area since mostly all females in title positions.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Supervisors seems to be ignored by clarifying certain instructions, directions and task asked to do.

Career Development

None given because claims work load and availability of staff

Overall compensation for your work

Task are not compensated based on information in specs. Taxpayer Services performs credit counseling, financial aid services to taxpayers.

Office / Work Environment

Not user friendly. When you are a target, not safe just come in and ready to leave.

Environmental Friendliness

Air quality is poor; freeze in summer and weather sometime you will get a little heat for weather.

Work-Life Balance

Just get out and leave it there.

Company Image

Known as prison and rude

Job Security

You have to do something really, bad or drugs in order for anything to happen.

Handicapped Accessibility

Work area allows for only one taxpayer and if have a wheelchair scooter , they block the isles and less privacy.

Workplace Safety

Allow multiple taxpayers in small space and when they are irate- no protection!

Challenging Work

The work is rewarding however not doing enough of seeing repeat taxpayers with same returning issue

Inclusive / Diverse

Just stay at your desk, no walking in areas you don't need to be and you don't get to see who is your neighbor. Only notice Caucasians in better kept areas.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Customer Service training for supervisors, all are not meant to be leaders. Training of functions to make sure the representatives are all on same page of delivering service to taxpayer with correct information. Shadowing opportunities allowed for representatives seeking growth in other areas.

What I like about the company

Medical, union involvement and the co-workers I have helped me on my journey.

What I dislike about the company

Leadership in department; structure is none, communication and some directions that are given without reason.
