For the most part I enjoy my job and work with good colleagues. Unfortunately, I currently work with a bad batch of military co-workers, but they're departing this summer. So, I expect things to get better again.
Support from management
Well, we currently undergoing a potential major shift in job duties and it's not clear that higher leadership understands what we do and what they want. It's very frustrating.
Currently, we have a bad batch of military co-workers, but hopefully that will change this summer.
Freedom to work independently
My current boss is not a micromanager and trusts us to get the job done.
We generally get weekly guidance from our immediate supervisor, but not always frequently enough from higher leadership.
I wouldn't say we have exactly equal opportunity, but I think we have better opportunities with the government than many civilian companies.
Attitude towards older colleagues
I haven't seen or heard of any discrimination towards 45+ employees.
There are training opportunities for those who seek it.
Overall compensation for your work
I received a promotion a couple years ago and feel fairly compensated.
Office / Work Environment
I currently work in a VERY old building that's literally being eaten away by termites. Portions of it are already condemned, however, I do have adequate lighting, temperature control, and technology.
We have a separate recycling bin in my office that gets emptied once a week.
As a federal employee, I get all Federal holidays off and I have a annual and sick leave balance.
I believe in our mission and am proud to be a part of it.
Of course, a government job is always subject to sequestration or furlough, but for the most part my job is pretty stable.
Yes, my building has a ramp and elevator for handicap people.
Except for the building itself being eaten away by termites, safety is taken seriously.
My job can be very challenging, especially when you have to collaborate with the entire command and try to interpret the Commander's needs and wants.
Inclusive / Diverse
In a military organization, it's basically what the Commander wants and depends how open he is to diverse ideas.
Suggestions for improvement
- A new building that's not slowly being condemned and a parking structure that alleviates the super bad parking situation would be great.
What I like about the company
I have been lucky to work with good civilian colleagues. This makes a huge difference when collaborating on a project and getting the mission done.
What I dislike about the company
The old building I work in is slowly being condemned as it's being eaten away by termites. I often wonder about mold & asbestos, as well.
