Suggestions for improvement
- Communicate better with employees - in the move, almost everything we were told wound up being a lie, and everyone knows this but is afraid to tell the executive director. There is an active culture of fear - getting a realistic impression of how staff feels WITHOUT the executive director in the room would be a good start. Compensation - we do not get reviews and we do not get compensation increases (until the October 2017 2% cost of living increase for everyone). Our parking ""reimbursement"" pays less than half the cost of parking. There are nearly no amenities for employees - food is stolen out of the fridges and yet we are not allowed to have mini fridges, heat and air conditioning does not work reliably and yet we are not allowed to have heaters or fans. The wifi was turned off after the executive director got upset about people using it - there have been threats to stop buying k-cups for the keurig machines, which is one of the only amenities that IS available. The building does have a gym, but that is only there because of the building's other tenants, nothing specific to DRO.
What I like about the company
There are a lot of great individuals working here, but management is beyond horrible - many key employees have left already and more are on the way out the door - the most positive that can be said is that the work is great, helping people with disabilities
What I dislike about the company
Management does not have any clue about employee morale - actively discourages feedback - makes clear employees will be fired if they talk about a union or otherwise express discontent - employees are grossly underpaid - yes, it's a non-profit, but still, no increase in salary for years followed by a 2% ""cost of living"" is a slap in the face - the executive director is a ""good old boy"" who does not care about keeping employees, and it shows. Top-down authoritarian power structure, no trust among employees, the list goes on... avoid this place!
