Suggestions for improvement

  • Hire an HR Director who is not the daughter of the owners, treat employees better, need a life work balance, stop the favoritism.

What I like about the company

Met a few nice employees who also left the company. We keep in touch.

What I dislike about the company

Conflicts of interest, owners & HR Director speak ill of employees to other employees, they also throw insubordinate under the bus. Compensation is not adequate with all the various duties added to your initial job, you are frowned upon if you don't participate in company events, dress code is ridiculous!

Support from management

Definitely not setting realistic expectations. The work load on one person, sometimes two, is absolutely ridiculous. There are so many things that go into being at the front desk of this place, getting people signed in, the endless testing, finding their file, answering the non stop calls by the second ring, data entry, running around, etc. the work load is never ending. God forbid you make a mistake even though the goals and expectations are forever changing and sometimes not communicated to everyone. Employees feedback is really never appreciated.

Teamwork

No one works well together in this place. While I was there it was drama from day one. Since the office is mostly women, the cattiness and gossip is awful. Day one I was told to watch out for this person and that person and it didn't end. No one interacts well because we are constantly looking over our shoulder wondering who is saying what about you. Everyone talks bad about each other and when you bring it up to management nothing changes. I honestly felt management was talking about me too.

Freedom to work independently

I don't think so. They're constantly coming to check on this file and that file, and did you do data entry for this person and that person. They also have microphones hidden around the building to hear your conversations. I was told by someone not to ever say something you didn't want heard because they could hear you.

Internal Communication

Communication is at a zero! They tell you something one day and then change it a few days later and if you weren't told about it and make a mistake later you get spoken to like you're incompetent. No one ever tells you you're doing a good job. Only when you're doing a bad one.

Gender Equality

I don't feel like women are treated any different than the few men that work there. I think it's pretty equal.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I don't see any discrimination in age differences.

Career Development

No one will advance in this company if they have any appreciation for themselves. This place is a revolving door. Employees are constantly quitting left and right. In the few months I worked there, probably like 6 or 7 people quit for one reason or another. I know 4 more people left after me. That's just in a few months. If you can stand to be working for people who don't appreciate you, your opinions, and you can hold your tongue then yes there's room for advancement.

Overall compensation for your work

No way. You would have to pay me a lot more for the work load I was given plus the drama and feeling like you're disliked everyday.

Office / Work Environment

I honestly hated the environment from day one. I couldn't wait to leave at the end of the day. A lot of days I left in tears because I was so tired of being talked down to and holding my tongue. As far as the office itself, it's a nice office. Outdated technology wise, but otherwise ok.

Environmental Friendliness

No environmental awareness as far as I could tell.

Work-Life Balance

I had a set schedule. But I know the other recruiters and managers have a horrible schedule. They're in by 7am and sometimes don't leave until after 7 or 8pm. I know a certain person wanted a work/life balance and when they brought up the fact that the work/life balance was nonexistent and asked if there was a way they could work on that, they were told they wouldn't change their ways for this person and if they didn't want to be there they didn't have to be. Totally disposable.

Company Image

Absolutely not.

Job Security

I never felt like my job was stable. The owner didn't even welcome me to the company. It took the owner about 3 weeks to even speak to me after I started. For someone who has their own business you would think they would welcome new team members who are bringing in business and creating more revenue for them, but no.

Handicapped Accessibility

No elevators on this premises but I think it was handicap accessible. I'm not sure if there would be any positions even open for someone with a disability though.

Workplace Safety

Yes there was an accident training video.

Challenging Work

To say the job is challenging is an understatement. Everything is a challenge the second you walk in the door. Starting with the fact that you feel like you're under a microscope at all hours of the day. I always felt like if I breathed wrong I'd get told something. The work load is endless and exhausting and frankly impossible for one person to do.

Inclusive / Diverse

I don't think ideas or opinions are supported unless theyre the same ideas as the management. If you disagree or suggest otherwise, forget it.

  • None. I really don't want to make suggestions to people like this.

What I like about the company

I honestly didn't like a single thing about this place. I think people have way to long of a process to go through to look for job placement, a lot of who are never called or thought of again. I liked one person in the payroll department and one of the receptionists but that's it. I didn't like management or the owners at all.

Just about everything.

Company Culture

Take credit from others, belittle your coworkers, and constantly look over your shoulder to see who will throw you under the ever-prevalent bus.

Support from management

You are not empowered to effect ANY positive changes.

Teamwork

Each office and department will point fingers and be in competition to the point of losing clients.

Freedom to work independently

You will have NO say in how you run your daily operating rhythm.

Internal Communication

Constant communication; although it will most likely be presented in a negative manner and couched in very unprofessional language.

Gender Equality

The majority of employees are women, however I do not believe this due to anything sinister or planned. It simply is due to whom they attract to their open positions.

Attitude towards older colleagues

There are a few tenured employees, and I do not believe they are seen as less capable than newer (younger) employees. Everyone is treated in the same demeaning manner.

Career Development

Like many small businesses, it is privately owned with the family involved; unless you plan to marry into the family, your opportunities for advancement will be limited. Branch manager is about the top you will reach, although it is a titular position with no real empowerment.

Overall compensation for your work

Sales - base salary is WAY out of tune with market norms; commission plan is company-weighted and biased. Recruiter salaries and commissions are even more absurd when weighed against the level of work performed and demand for time.

Office / Work Environment

The (main) office is a fairly nice facility, although the layout in the pit is a bit unconventional, as candidates are able to view internal and client information while being interviewed.

Environmental Friendliness

There is not much focus on any social matters; of course, this may have changed for the better in the recent months.

Work-Life Balance

You are expected to stay ridiculously long hours, begin and end your day at the office, regardless if you have to cross the city after visiting clients, and verbally punished and marginalized for even thinking about taking a PTO day.

Company Image

This company has essentially been a revolving door, primarily in sales, although recruiters are a close second. The internal image is one of disgust, however people need a job so they "suck it up". Clients image of the company is widely diverse; some love the service, many (MANY) others will not work with DMD at any cost, thus the constant need for NEW business.

Job Security

Primary factor for a lack of job security (other than poor performance, which is expected) is if you are liked by ownership, although that will change day-to-day, depending of their mood and perceived "unprofessional-ism" (e.g. you dare to disagree with them). Do not deign to ask why you are required to stay such long hours, for redundant and pointless meetings.

Handicapped Accessibility

While there are no disabled employees that I am aware of, I don't believe there would ever be any discrimination. The building is very accessible.

Workplace Safety

There does not seem to be any overt safety concerns that I am aware of.

Challenging Work

You feel as if you get to keep your job for another day; I suppose that can be a sense of accomplishment. It can be rewarding work, however the passion is beaten out of you in short notice.

Inclusive / Diverse

Yes. If you blindly agree with ownership, you are golden; if you do not, then beware. That is the level of diversity fostered here.

Suggestions for improvement

  • When your ad states you will not have "someone looking over your shoulder", stand by that. There is no need to paint a Picasso to bring them in the door and then have my 1st-grade painting actually hanging in the vestibule. Listen to your employees suggestions, and if valid - implement them! If not, then thank them and move on. Empower your people and stand behind them when they mess up (and they will- they are human). Revise your compensation plan out of the '80's and it will not only attract great talent, it will keep them there. Stop fueling divisions between sales and recruiting; and stop having the East office in competition with the West office for clients and market share. Pay on time, especially expenses; if you have timely demands for them them, stand by your timely commitments TO them as well. Stop the redundant paperwork required to document activity; either CRM or on paper, not both. Create an atmosphere that people want to be in, not one they cannot wait to get out of. Create loyalty by being loyal to the team. Instill passion in what they do by demonstrating passion in what YOU do; why did you build the business in the first place? Promote ingenuity, initiative, and inventiveness; not just if you like them and they are a "yes" person. Have capable people in leadership roles, that will actually retain clients rather than drive them away because they cannot speak in a professional, courteous manner. Stop believing you created the staffing business, and show humility for the success you have had - no matter what you think, you did not achieve it all by yourself. Show gratitude to those that show passion in what they do, rather than beat it out of them in myriad, soul-sucking ways. Understand that pettiness is not attractive in a person, and much less so when demonstrated by the full leadership team in an organization. Close the revolving door; give people a reason to want to stay by encouraging their growth rather than stifling them. Learn to recognize and reward competency and ability; everyone internally knows who is able to accomplish what, but leadership does not seem to realize the same. When mistakes happen, support the staff (when warranted of course); the goodwill you receive in return will far outweigh the effort you had to put forth.

What I like about the company

I enjoyed some of the people I met there. I also learned what NOT to do in this industry to ensure long-term client loyalty.

What I dislike about the company

Unwarranted sense of grandeur, industry leader and innovator, and lack of awareness in their true market image. You are given a bill of goods while interviewing, but when the blindfold is ripped away, the fiction that is the job posting hits you square in the eye. You have little to no value as a voice, as it is easier to replace you with other, more sycophantic lemmings. It could be a tremendous place to work, and probably was at one time; they need to get back to those roots and back to what worked previously.
