Fairness didn't exist. Favoritism everywhere
Support from management
Management very biased against employees from other plants after consolidation
Every man for himself.
Freedom to work independently
In distribution some routes were done in 4 or 5 hrs while others worked 10 or more
We had meetings every month that gave us safety information. They didn't tell us what the sales and promotions were
Attitude towards older colleagues
It depends. If you are someone the management likes you are good if not you are out of luck. That's the reason I am not there now.
This area isn't bad. We had some load crew members that were able to move to the distribution area.
Overall compensation for your work
We didn't have a contract that had wages in after the merger. Everyone used to know what the job category paid. With the merger wages were different for everyone. It caused problems.
Office / Work Environment
Very clean building. Fleet was being updated. Had slot of unsafe trucks
The company was being very environmentally conscious
Personal days were at the company's discretion. Vacation in pecking order. You got weeks that were left after seniority employees picked all of theirs. Personal and vacations could be canceled
Years ago we were proud of the company and the company seemed to care about us. In the 1980s the company gave us a huge bonus for no reason. Now we get a sweater for Christmas. No parties. Very sad.
If I could give s zero I would. I was injured on the job after 35 years and the company could have given me another job but they decided to terminate me instead.
We didn't have disabled employees. The normal disability options
Safety was a big concern with management. The problem was they didn't want you to take the time to do things right. They wanted it done quickly no matter what the cost of quality
When I first started at the company, very rewarding. Later years very frustrating. Company is worried that you work too slow more than did you do the job correctly.
Suggestions for improvement
- Quit worrying about the bottom line so much. Care about your employees and they will do a better job for you.
What I like about the company
Steady work environment. Friendly people. Wages not bad for some people. The younger employees are screwed
What I dislike about the company
Favoritism! It depends on who you are. I hated it. For example. Some drivers could split up vacations and other couldn't. Some drivers had 4 or 5 hr. Routes and got paid for 8 hrs. Work others had to work the entire day with mandatory overtime. If you had s doctor appointment you couldn't work a shortened shift. You would h be to take a personal day or call off to make the appointment.
