Company culture

There is no culture, unless you count "Working 50 hours a week? Slacker." as being culture.

Support from Management

Upper management seemed very aloof. Some of the middle managers were good, but a large chunk of them were downsized in 2015.

Teamwork

The teams work together well despite management.

Level of Autonomy

Some groups were better than others at not micro-managing.

Communication

Communication seemed very one-way. Comments upward seemed to have little effect, while upper management made sure their decrees were followed.

Company culture

DST had a very good culture from at least 1993 (when I started there) until 2013 or so. Sadly, things have really headed south, largely due to a layoff in 2016 and several HR policy changes reducing vacation time and other benefits. Hopefully things will turn back around at some point (I'm writing this review in early 2017), but a lot of excellent, long-term employees left in the past year, and many more are looking for outside opportunities.

Suggestions for improvement

  • DST had a good history of employee treatment until recent years, so employees do remember that DST has been willing and capable of caring for their employees. Reconsider recent changes (vacation, retirement plan contributions, delayed annual performance raises, reduced promotion raise caps, etc.), and maybe even communicate an apology to the employees for going astray in your relationship with them. This company is hemmoraging talent as the good employees are pouring out of here in the past year.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Get over the 30 day limit for work from anywhere. Offshore resources create twice the work and those who know work 24x7 to support them. There used to be a lot of loyalty to executive management and now there is none. Never knew what the term "stick it to the man" meant until we got all the new senior execs who like to "stick it to the worker, especially the older workers but the ones that are left are the ones who are critical because they know the "ins and outs" of the system. To execs. If you don't want nightly to go bump in the night, you better leave the senior crew alone and start rewarding them. They are leaving in waves and we are at a pinnacle point. I used to be proud to work for DST. Now I would not recommend it to anyone. Executive greed is rampant.

What I like about the company

The tenured employees that know the system well.
