Company culture

Political correctness and the influence of the merger with Progress have ruined this company, even the two would seem to contradict each other. Management will run like roaches with the lights flipped on they think someone might accuse them of insensitivity or a violation of social justice matters. On the other hand the quiet and hardworking employees are taken for granted. It is a weird mix.

Career Development

When I was there they had a goal of cutting the workforce by 30 per cent. Management preached that other utilities had already made these cuts and Duke had to do the same in order to survive. It killed morale.

What I like about the company

Good pay and safe work place with family values important to most

What I dislike about the company

They lost their way. Instead of doing the right thing for the rate payers and the environment which leads to profits and a strong team which gains support from each state public service commission, they decided to change direction. Now they focus on revenue no matter what the cost. Cut backs on people, environmental safety implementation, retirement plans, energy conservation programs in Florida all set a precedent. Did it work? Sure if you overlook the millions in fines, regulatory pay offs and governor donations. They are redefining the statement "bending the rules"
