Company Culture

You were commended for picking up live calls but past that, actual technician work,degree of call difficulty and time spent on call were rarely taken into consideration. There was no fairness or trust, everyone for themselves, be cut throat.

Support from management

The supervisors were a joke. There was one exception, he was smart enough to quit. They had unrealistic expectations for a help desk situation and if you didn't meet their "standards" they would call you into the office and try to make you feel like junk even if you were busting your butt. Their system of training and transferring was next to non existent. If you got out of helpdesk you were lucky.

Teamwork

The support from fellow technicians varied but was more helpful than most of the management.

Calls were often distributed to technicians based on favoritism

Career Development

It's possible you could advance in other departments but the ability to advance in the help desk was a joke, you were "required" to stay in position for 18 months+ with exceptions for favoritism, the raises were negligible at best.

Overall compensation for your work

You were really lucky if you got any sort of advancement or raise which was negligible. They were sticklers about transferring out of the help desk and would do as much as possible to block a transfer. We were severely underpaid as well. You basically paid full price for benefits. We were given a "free" 50 k life insurance policy but had to pay full price for health benefits. Payed time off was earned 2.25 hrs per week but if you worked the 10 hr days you were slighted.

Work-Life Balance

There was constant resistance when it came to taking days off, requests off would be "lost." If you wanted to switch with a co worker there was much resistance. When on call you were required to be on call a solid week from 12 am to 8 am then come in to work either 8-5 or 8-7. We had a office in another state open until 1 am est but they would go on do not disturb at 12 am est and not do any work

Company Image

The company is rated one of the top places to work in upstate, NY. This is bull, the ceo is a spineless self absorbed so and so. Positive reviews were given by company butt kissers and people not in the call center.

Job Security

Almost no room for career advancement, once you were in a position they expected you to stay there for a minimum of 18 months (with some favoritism exceptions) then when the time came to a potential transfer they would make a big to do about it. Raises were negligible at best. Employee appreciation was replaced by constantly instilling possibility of termination.

Challenging Work

You could spend 1 hr on a hard call and the guy that answered 2 live calls and not fix them would get more credit.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Fire the spineless HR guy that is no help and find managers for help desk that actually provide training and a sense of support instead of the current jokers that are out of touch with any sort of reasonably realistic goals.

What I like about the company

Some of the staff was very helpful and friendly, others were not.
