They have weekly employee appreciation events and company picnics and such. Monthly peer recognition as well.
Support from management
Leader what? Next to no management interaction.
If you have internal employees on your project it's fine if not prepare to be thrown under a bus.
Freedom to work independently
Most of the time you are on your own unless you go to your supervisor and ask for help. Self study during downtime such as working on certifications is a must. You have lots of free time usually so it's pretty easy to do.
If you aren't shy and initiate communication is ok.
They hire whomever
Attitude towards older colleagues
not many here but they are treated like everyone else.
I mean if you are lucky enough to get on projects aligning with your career plan then it's great. If not well, it's a good place to use as a resume builder.
Overall compensation for your work
Pay is well below the national average, Medical insurance has been AFHC'ed up and now isn't very good. 401k and all the rest is fine though. The worst thing about this job is the location of No Where South Dakota where it's a 3-4 hour drive to a town with a population 5,000.
Office / Work Environment
nice office that is 3/4 empty.
Lots of downtime no real stress at all mostly. Most days I have an hour or two at least to work on personal things while at work.
Most former employees leave very harsh reviews I'm trying to be impartial you get paid on par for the amount of work you will do.
Non-existent. If the sales guys can't get projects and you are benched for 2-3 months without working on certifications or something else that adds value to you, you are going to get let go. This applies to everyone if you aren't making them money your job is at risk regardless of if it's your fault or not.
nice easy to get to office it's handicap accessible
it's a technology office not a construction site.
Mostly very laidback and easygoing crunch times can be challenging.
Inclusive / Diverse
You are as included as you want to be.
Suggestions for improvement
- Drop the expensive 3/4 empty offices and combine them in an area people in their 20s will want to live. Need more organized sales guys that can close a deal to keep people busy. So much wasted time and money by disorganized project managers.
What I like about the company
I like the job, I'm fresh from college and it's a relaxed easy going environment where you have the opportunity to gain experience for a better paying job in the future. This job is a stepping stone and it is what you make of it. If you want some experience and the opportunity to get certifications and stuff it's a good first real job.
What I dislike about the company
It's in South Dakota. If you aren't into hunting or fishing you are probably going to be bored here in SD because there is nothing else to do. I also didn't like the fact that I had to sign a 2 year contract with a heavy penalty if I decided to go elsewhere. That and the training is pretty sub par you learn a good detailed amount of SQL and querying during the first month not so much after that.
