Party line is that it’s one of the best places to work for, but closer look shows management and people in major leadership positions are incompetent and even unethical.
Support from management
Inexistent. Management needs to be supervised.
Staff in other departments (student support) are spread thin and some important departments are understaffed (e.g., mental health for students), but they do the best they can despite this.
See above: strong party line about the university being one of the best places to work for, however in practice, behind closed doors there are plenty of bad faith actors.
See above. Currently the uni is fighting two Title IX lawsuits.
Appear friendly in day-to-day, however watch your back.
The work you put in is never enough.
Much better than years back.
They say they follow procedure, but in practice they violate the contract. This practice is found in management and at the highest level. This university’s mission is worthy. If only it had the leadership that would truly commit to its ideals.
Inclusive / Diverse
Party line is that this uni values diversity, however diversity officers are either weak and ineffective or they are colluding with the administration.
Suggestions for improvement
- Have administrators be more accountable to faculty. More faculty governance, less administrators with inflated paychecks obstructing the goals of the university mission.
What I like about the company
Many faculty are good at what they do and many are committed to students and research.
What I dislike about the company
