Eclaro:What's it like to work here?
Gender equality has always been an important category of work life, but it is especially important today in light of the recent major injustices against women’s rights that have taken hold of the political spotlight (as of the writing of this article).
Sure, we are way better off with gender equality than we were a hundred years ago. But given that there is still a major gender pay gap across industries, women are still underrepresented in many lines of work, and women’s rights are still being undermined…we’ve all got a long way to go!
To stick to the positive side of the Gender Equality discussion, we decided to spotlight a number of companies in typically male-dominated industries such as IT, Engineering, and Consumer Electronics, who are actually doing well with gender equality in the workplace and are making it a priority. Read on to see who those companies are (in no particular order) – who knows, maybe you might be interested in working at one!15 companies in male-dominated industries that care about gender equality: Spin Systems
Spin Systems, or SpinSys, is an IT company headquartered in Falls Church, Virginia with branch offices in Charleston, SC and San Antonio, TX. They help companies create business intelligence from big data problems and take the complexity out of building and migrating applications into a private or public cloud.
While it’s a matter of fact that working in an IT company such as Spin Systems is not as popular among female workers as other industries are, Spin System nevertheless fosters an environment that is welcoming to both men and women – with a “family oriented atmosphere that cares about their employees” – and actively searches for strong female job candidates and employees. Some attractive benefits about working at Spin Systems include flexible work hours, remote work, tuition reimbursement, nap rooms, onsite gym and the opportunity to feel truly supported; one employee says that the “work environment is AMAZING” and “any need that I have asked for has been provided to me [as an employee]”.

Employees openly share that there is “phenomenal work life balance” at Akamai, and that it’s “a great environment to grow and thrive in. I started less than six years ago as a contracted marketing coordinator and I’m now a manager with more chances to grow ahead of me. My work is very challenging and for the most part, I feel super valued by my boss and upper management.”

Kronos, or Kronos Incorporated, is a relatively well-known company in the software industry because it’s used by so many companies to manage their workforce. For those who don’t know, it’s a U.S. based multi-national workforce management software and services company headquartered in Lowell, Massachusetts, with nearly 5,600 employees worldwide. And though the size of this company and the fact that it has many different departments (other than IT) means that it does better with employing females than other IT companies, one would still consider it as one company in a male-dominated field. That makes it even more refreshing to learn that they treat their employees, men and women, really well. Case in point: one employee shares that “when I went on maternity they paid me 100% of my pay for 12 weeks”.
Another employees share this: “This company is great for diversity and inclusion and they are more than accepting of anyone and everyone. Case in point: one employee shares that “Salesforce values its employees and I enjoy working there. However, being a company firmly entrenched in a male-dominated field that still manages to have a strong gender equality score based on over 400 employee reviews – we felt like it was useful to include them.
