Due to the fact that the vast majority of the hundreds of employees are college students, it makes for a pretty fun atmosphere. Lots of free food and such, work parties, contests, etc.
Support from management
Literally all management at this company is completely and utterly incompetent. These people don't have two brain cells to rub together, but they talk down to every one of the lower level employees (who again, are all undergraduate or graduate students), treating them like they're morons and babying them. It's painful to watch.
They really encourage everyone to be collaborative (often in very condescending ways, but they do encourage it, so whatever).
I can't remember a single time that a policy changed at this company (which happens ALL the time) and I didn't get 10 different answers from 5 people about what we were supposed to be doing.
No room whatsoever for upward mobility, although they like to pretend that getting laterally promoted is upward mobility
Office / Work Environment
It's one giant open floor plan office with a handful of cubicles for IT, HR, and scheduling. There is one window, and it's covered up. You're required to lock up any personal items other than water bottles (i.e. phones, music players, books, pencils/pens, paper, etc.) in lockers outside the production floor. Computers are unable to surf the web. It's bleak. Oh, so bleak.
They make a great effort to work with everyone's schedules since most of the employees are students. However, I've also seen lots of my coworkers get screwed over with their schedules, being scheduled last minute to work at times that they have class or mandatory school events and then getting written up or fired for not showing up to a shift that they didn't know they were supposed to work.
There's a security guard and two sets of doors to badge in through outside the office.
Suggestions for improvement
- Fire everyone and start over with people who actually know how to run a company. Not force employees to either pay for parking or park in the light rail Park and Ride parking lot half a mile away.
What I like about the company
They have a nice mission, and make things a lot easier on a lot of students who end up having to take out loans.
What I dislike about the company
Terrible management. Depressing office. Did I mention terrible incompetent management?
