Suggestions for improvement

  • Get a new owner. Under the current leadership suggestions are not accepted, rather ridiculed.

What I like about the company

I enjoyed working with special needs students and developing a bond with a student and often time his/her parent/guardian. I also enjoyed the staff I worked with. My colleagues are the only reason I stayed sane during my time with the company.

What I dislike about the company

Everything. The Doctor (also owner) is unethical, degrading, emotionally and verbally abusive. During my time at the company I lost all sense of professional confidence often leading to a lack of personal confidence. Employees are yelled at in front of each other and clients. Employees are mandated to alter assessment scores per Doctor's orders. This assists clients in receiving services needed, but is unethical. Employees are degraded constantly. Additionally, employees are illegally compensated. Overtime is not paid, but it is mandated to finish tasks. The owner will not allow employees to leave if tasks are incomplete. Employees are not provided the state of CA sick days (3). If an employee is sick, she was required to work overtime to make up the hours. If she did not, she was not compensated. If she did work the overtime, she was not paid at an OT rate. I provided 9 business days' notice when departing the company (1 day short of a traditional 2 weeks) and was not given my final paycheck on my last day of employment (CA law). I was told that I was unprofessional for not provided upwards of 1 month notice. Overall, this company is a disaster and deserves to be shut down.

Suggestions for improvement

  • More training availability for employees at ALL levels, unbiased interviews, structured training plans when hired into new positions, action reviews for mgrs at all levels when issues arise. HR to not take only mgr word for a situation and take all sides into account

What I like about the company

Good benefits. 403 match is good for a non profit. Education reimbursement is great

What I dislike about the company

Stop playing favorites. Give equal opportunity when positions open up. Treat everyone fairly, and stop giving mgrs. family that are employees special treatment. Lower level admins. should be given equal opportunity to advance and not be held back.

Company Culture

There is no culture.

Support from management

The leadership constantly blamed the support staff for any error whatsoever. There was no leadership support and the owner consistently belittles employees.

Teamwork

Teamwork among the support staff was very good despite the fact that the support staff is constantly pitted against each other. There is absolutely no teamwork between the Doctor (owner) and support staff.

Freedom to work independently

There is zero freedom within this work place. Employees are made to record every task completed throughout the day, the amount of time the task took, and the tasks they want to achieve the next day. While I believe this can be beneficial, the manner in which it was done was insulting and distrusting.

Internal Communication

The owner does not know how to communicate effectively and only belittles her employees.

Gender Equality

Women have more of an advantage as the owner did not have any male employees while I worked there.

Career Development

There is no room for career development aside from learning your initial task hired for.

Overall compensation for your work

Under compensated and EXTREMELY overworked.

Office / Work Environment

Employees are constantly made to work overtime without being paid for it. Despite the fact that CA mandates all employees have 3 paid sick days, we received 0. Lunch breaks were often worked through due to pressure of the owner without any compensation. If you task was not done at the end of the day, you were required to stay to complete it without compensation. When you arrived at work you were deemed "on the clock" despite being early and not being compensated for it.

Environmental Friendliness

Unfortunately the owner has no social awareness as she is belittling in front of clients and has questionable reprimanding with special needs students.

Work-Life Balance

The owner does not have any work-life balance (company ran out of her house) and expects employees to have the same mindset.

Company Image

Very poor image. Employees have zero respect for the owner due to the manner in which she treats all individuals.

Job Security

There is no job security. I watched the owner deviously eliminate an employee over the course of 3 months all while demanding more of the employee.

Handicapped Accessibility

There is no disability access.

Workplace Safety

There is no training whatsoever, especially that of safety (we were required to walk around barefoot).

Challenging Work

The tasks themselves were not extremely challenging; however, did provide for new skills to be learned.

Inclusive / Diverse

The owner made several degrading and racist comments to individuals not of Caucasian decent.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Other than a new owner, I am not sure there are suggestions for improvement.

What I like about the company

Nothing.

What I dislike about the company

There are several things, but I will keep it brief. The owner is the most belittling and degrading person I have met. She has no appreciation for anything anyone does. I would never recommend this as a place of employment.
