Edwards Vacuum is a massive company and when they say they are the top of what they do they are serious. This was a great company to be apart of and the overall company culture was very good.
Support from management
Management on the local level is the biggest problem for this company. The overall company is great but at our location the local manager/supervisors were lacking in leadership. They do not support the team leads/shift leads when support is requested or needed. As different people move in and out of the positions in management this is of course likely to change.
The individual teams/shifts were tight groups and we supported each other very well. There was nothing we couldn't handle when we were working together.
Freedom to work independently
As Night shift Team Lead we were more on our own by default. But self reliance and not having someone over your shoulder was very nice. Day shift does tend to have a bit more oversight/less autonomy.
Communication on shift and at shift change over is usually pretty good. However communications with management as none were on shift during our time slot was difficult and at times non-existent.
We only had a few women working with us but they were never treated differently than the men and were an integral part of the team.
Attitude towards older colleagues
There is a "good ol' boys" mentality with some of the older/high time employees.
They are good about moving you up and around to get experience in different things. You are in control of your path and Edwards is good about helping you find your goals.
Overall compensation for your work
The pay was the best I've ever had. And the benefits package is very nice.
Office / Work Environment
Working in a SubFab is noisy and not always comfortable but Global Foundries (our site) was not too unpleasant.
Care for the environment is top of the pile concern for Edwards.
While there was plenty of overtime, we were working a stagger shift, meaning 12 hour shifts, 4 days then 3 days. So we had long weekends no matter what. It was very nice.
I was very proud to work for them, I enjoyed working for them and would do so again if the opportunity came about.
As work sometimes is dependent on customer needs there is always the chance of a site terminating the Edwards contract or not renewing it. But Edwards is the best at what they do so it's not something we worried to much about.
This was a non issue at our site.
Safety briefs, and constant training are given for safety issues. 5S is huge to this company. Employees are encouraged to participate in presentations.
Troubleshooting the systems we used was always a great challenge and the part of the job I loved the most. No matter how long you work on these systems they always manage to toss you a curve ball you have never seen before. It was a lot of fun for me.
Inclusive / Diverse
We had people from all walks of life, all different backgrounds working on our team.
