Not much camaraderie. Always some artificial pressure disguised in end of the world consequences.
Support from management
Engineering management is struggling. The company expects management to be too close to the technical problems causing them to be stretched thin on the management side. Systems, policies, and plans are very weak. However, the personalities of the current management staff are really easy to get a long with.
Hit and miss. Some people are really good to each other and want to understand each other's problems, but this is at a personal level and not necessarily part of the culture.
Freedom to work independently
Maybe the one highlight. Funding is good, exploration is encouraged. If you have the time you can try anything which is a really good aspect of this group.
There is an open flow of information.
There are no female managers in this department. Could simply be statistically likely as there are few females in the department.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Again hit and miss. It doesn't feel cut throat, but more and more people don't like to work together much.
Management is distracted.
Overall compensation for your work
Pretty competitive salary wise. Benefits are average(ish)
Office / Work Environment
Decent office spaces, labs are a disaster, messy, loud, and terribly disorganized.
The printing industry is historically and maybe necessarily one of the least environmentally friendly industries I've ever seen, but this is not unique to this company. If the environment is important to you printing may not be the best choice.
Great vacation program.
Great products, wishy washy operations.
If you try you're pretty safe
Cannot access the lab from the office areas if you are in need of a wheelchair. I'm not even sure you could get to your office.
With all the junk in the labs, safety records are pretty high.
What you do is here is challenging and interesting. It's the saving grace when coupled with freedom to learn.
Inclusive / Diverse
Average for the area (Meredith, NH). Not a very diverse population.
Suggestions for improvement
- Management needs to re-engage and put controls in place for the division.
What I like about the company
Casual feel to the environment.
What I dislike about the company
Disorganized, disengaged leadership, nearsightedness
