If the numbers are good, then the company will treat you ok and try to be a "good" company. When sales starts missing their numbers though, look out - everyone's head (mainly non-sales) will be on the chopping block.
Support from management
You're lower to mid level manager will probably give you support, depending on what team you're on. As you go up the ladder, good luck. The upper management, you're lucky if you get 5 mins of their time.
This gets 4 stars as my team worked awesome. Again, within the department. Outside of that, its more of a competition.
Freedom to work independently
Plenty of freedom to work independently. As long as you're doing well, you probably won't hear much complaining either.
Low level departments tend to communicate ok within themselves, however you won't get much insight into other departments. As far as upper management, forget it. What you hear is maybe 1/3 of what they're really up to.
If you manage to survive a layoff, then you're career development can be good as they have major holes to fill. Else, not much development. Some managers try to get some money for classes but again, totally dependent on sales.
Overall compensation for your work
They will pay you as little as they can so if you're applying, get as much as you can up front. Raises - maybe a small adjustment each year but totally dependent on how the company is doing.
Office / Work Environment
Very bland, cubicle work environment. Some small perks like a soda machine and food kiosk (you have to pay for the items), but again very focused on cost cutting so not much. Good luck even finding a pen most days.
Overall the people (workers) are actually very friendly and great to work with.
As long as you're not interfering with what you have going on work wise, life balance is fine.
They try to put off a good image to the outside world. Push heavy to make sure everyone participates in the surveys to get feedback. Once they have it though, unless it's an easy to provide fix, they won't do anything about it. They will use the information though to help senior management plan better how to deal with the employees - not in a positive way.
The only job security you might have is IF they are exceeding their sales numbers. As soon as this doesn't happen, layoffs. They have a history of layoffs at this company and it is their main go to move to make sure the investors get paid each quarter.
All 1 floor, handicap friendly building, so I believe it is ok.
The normal flyers up about safety and the documents you need to read upon getting hired.
The work is fairly challenging and there is lots of it. With people leaving all the time, coupled with VERY Lean (non-sales) teams - you'll always have plenty to try and get done.
Suggestions for improvement
- Stop being just about sales and trying to sell the company.
What I like about the company
The people are actually great to work with for the most part at the teams level.
What I dislike about the company
Senior management ONLY cares about $$$$. Everything is about Sales and they get spoiled compared to all other departments. As soon as they don't hit their numbers though, all the other departments are screwed.
