Support from management
Direct managers fully supported techs out in the field. No matter what time we called at night or day they would answer and help us out.
Went from a tech with really no knowledge in DC power to a lead tech in a year. But as many hours as we worked it was more like 2 years.
Overall compensation for your work
Start you off decent pay for some telecom experience. But increases are minimal and skewed. Made $10 less in my position then I would have at another company. Benefits are okay medical dental, paid vacation. Leads get a nice truck credit card, gas card. Everybody gets hotel card when traveling.
What we did in one day our competitors did in 2. So average week was 60 hours, sometimes more. Start work at 5 or 6pm get off around 3 or 4am.
My bosses had my back when I needed it. Although company restructures all the time so those bosses are now gone.
Supplied and furnished DC power to telecom companies. So very critical work that involved being very careful not to shut down let's say Verizon's cellular equipment as well as potential to hurt yourself or others working with live AC/DC equipment. Was rewarding at the end of the day.
Suggestions for improvement
- Raise pay for lead techs since they're responsible for everything that happens out in the field. You can get fired for one instance even if you didn't cause it but because your the lead tech your responsible. So pay should reflect that.
What I like about the company
Had good management. Challenging rewarding work.
What I dislike about the company
Bad hours, pay scale.
