Company Culture

Suits and d-bags

Support from management

There is none. They don't even know how to do the job. Just expect others to work their butts off

Teamwork

None work load is uneven.

Freedom to work independently

Not possible

Internal Communication

Management doesn't communicate anything

Gender Equality

All managers are males

Attitude towards older colleagues

They wont hire elderly

Career Development

They wont let anyone move into management. It would cut into management's bonus's

Overall compensation for your work

Under paid. They shove work down your throat and never want to pay you for doing more and more. Managers on the other hand make huge bonus's by keeping employees under paid and over pricing customers.

Office / Work Environment

Everyone is stuck up

Environmental Friendliness

Poor

Work-Life Balance

Get in at 7am and don't leave until 5pm

Company Image

They think they are business professional but they are just monkeys in suits pushing buttons while admin employees run the entire company.

Job Security

They will fire you if you cost them money

Handicapped Accessibility

None at all

Challenging Work

There's no help. You have to figure everything out for yourself.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Fire all the managers.

What I like about the company

Nothing.

What I dislike about the company

Everything they stand for

Company Culture

Strong culture under the founder's leadership. So strong that it doesn't seem to evolve. IS has powerful cultural castes based on role and tenure.

Support from management

Management will not provide support then throw their employees under the bus when things get critical. It is common for them to spend a lot of time tell people what to do every day instead of set clear job expectations.

Teamwork

Deep, narrow organizational silos; cross-team collaboration is extremely difficult. Even at the team level people are more a group of ICs than a team.

Freedom to work independently

It depends on the person and department. Certain people have freedom (based on caste), others might be micromanaged.

Internal Communication

Infrequent, long reads from high leadership which are always positive (not possible and not factual), or too vague for value to my job. They used to have round tables for bottom up communications and those went away.

Gender Equality

In a training a (executive) facilitator called the one female VP the "company mom". This is the pinnacle of what a woman can aspire at Expeditors.

Attitude towards older colleagues

In groups with older technology, older colleagues do well.

Career Development

The stated strategy is "Hire for attitude, train for skill", unstated is ... not for everyone (see caste comment above). The training system is terrible.

Overall compensation for your work

Pay is well below market. One colleague tripled income when leaving.

Office / Work Environment

Nice offices downtown

Environmental Friendliness

Has "Green" programs in place; but money is greener than green when it comes to customers

Work-Life Balance

Long hours are rarely required.

Challenging Work

Challenging? Definitely. The thrill is gone by the time we deploy.

Inclusive / Diverse

Diversity is better than most tech houses, except in the manager ranks where there is one WOC in IS leadership

Suggestions for improvement

  • Implement 360 reviews. Use objective criteria for performance reviews; change bonus structure accordingly. Depose the intractable from powerful positions. Get an HR.

What I like about the company

People are their greatest asset.

What I dislike about the company

Misogyny, favoritism, nepotism, and general lack of imagination

Suggestions for improvement

  • Standardize a management structure so employees aren't lost in the system. Allow a larger budget for managers to pay for technologies. Management needs to have a long term strategy and build towards it, instead of being caught up in the day-to-day problem solving.

What I like about the company

My coworkers are pretty cool.

What I dislike about the company

Management is promoted based off tenure and being a white male.

People that linger the longest rise to the top.

Executives actively ignore employee feedback and there is no HR department.
