Maintenance and safety take a back seat to production.
Support from management
Almost noon existing
Very little exists outside of the maintenance department.
Freedom to work independently
Very poor. It starts at the top.
Women can get away with a lot that men cannot.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Some of the older employees can be counted on for being good co workers.
It depends on what bid job you can get in the mill.
Overall compensation for your work
Pays better than most jobs in the area.
Office / Work Environment
Very tense and sometimes hostile environment.
7 day rotating schedule leaves you one weekend a month to do things.
They try to keep it a good image but the management makes it unpleasant to work there.
The Union picks and chooses who they support. Grievances have to be approved by a committee so your true grievance may never get processed.
Safety has a price here. If it costs too much to fix, they figure out ways around the safety issues.
Suggestions for improvement
- Get rid of all the current department heads and H. R. Manager. Things will improve if that happens.
What I dislike about the company
The environment can be hostile under the current human resources manager and the Union doesn't back it's employees.
