Company Culture

Fellow employees more interested in playing on cell phones than doing their jobs. Most were adversely affected by the holdover employee culture from the Mobil organization. Beaumont is not a typical Exxon facility, it remains a throwback to Mobil days.

Support from management

Most management at Beaumont has little idea or experience of the job you do. They are place-holders that are tapped to work one job for a 2-year period, then moved to another. Supposedly to produce a well-rounded employee. They never stay in one place long enough to be able to know their employee's jobs.

Teamwork

Most interactions are scripted and run by 2nd-line supervisors. Too dependent upon forcible instruction to conform at all times strangles individual thought process.

Freedom to work independently

Managers expect employees to stand on their own and finish their jobs without needing to have excessive assistance.

Internal Communication

Plenty of sharing goes on with cafeteria meetings where upper management delivers news and expectations, as well as results and problems in focus.

Gender Equality

Women, especially engineers, have excellent opportunity for advancement. Cannot comment on salary disparities, as I am unaware of the actual pay scales.

Attitude towards older colleagues

Older employees are the first to be forced out. Reasoning is money-based. Older employees are at the top of their respective salary structure, so they are encouraged to leave using many different methods.

Career Development

Only if you are an engineer.

Overall compensation for your work

Exxon pays as wwell asa r better than their peers. The downside is that they will expect you to spend more time at the facility as opposed to their peers.

Office / Work Environment

Excellent equipment and technology.

Environmental Friendliness

Excellent stewards of the environment onsidering the processes used.

Work-Life Balance

Beaumont employees are given ample opportunity to have an outside life. Company gym and outside activities exist to assist. managers expect employees to manage their life outside of work with ample flexibility.

Company Image

I own stock, so I believe in ExxonMobil corporation. unfortunately, the Beaumont site is a throwback and not consistent with Exxon values.

Job Security

Governemt mandated positions are generally stable.

Handicapped Accessibility

Folows the law. Facilities are organized properly with much thought to handicap access.

Workplace Safety

The "focus" on safety is extreme. Unfortunately, lack of unit operator training hinders actual safety.

Challenging Work

The largest challenge of my work was getting my peers to participate.

Inclusive / Diverse

Diversity in skin color is valued. Diversity of thought is scorned and demeaned.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Establish an actual training division that does not spend its time talking on the phone and going to golf outings. In other words, use a contractor to establish a new employee training program that gives employees a safety mindset and provides the needed technical and mechanical knowledge to know how to perform their tasks.Promote using ability rather than by the good-ole-boy method currently in use.Encourage employees diversity of thought rather than expect conformance to a preferred value or thought.

What I like about the company

Salary and Benefits meeting or exceeding peers Shell, Marathon and BP.Excellent facilities.Diverse work groups.Good work-life balance for engineers.Safety focused company.

What I dislike about the company

Hold-over Mobil Oil culture and older supervisors hold others back.Any failure to blindly accept a policy is met with retaliation from supervisors. Too much group think, as well as a severe conformist atmosphere strangles individual thoughts and expressions.Too many useless meetings where individuals are not expected to voice their opinions, but are expected to nod in agreement and sit through boring meetings of little to no value.Company supervisors and managers are typically unable to take a look at any problem and assign blame correctly and publicly.Fake sincerity with regard to Safety is shown daily with the lack of training supplied to new unit operators regarding basic operational expectations.
