Freedom to work independently
The harder you work the more you are pushed and your hard work will be rewarded with more work. It's easier to push the hard workers into more work than spread it around evenly. Hard worked is not necessarily compensated with a raise or promotion, but appreciation is offered in abundance.
If you become too good at your job the company is very reluctant to advance you. You may advance with in your department if there is a place for you to go. Learning new skills from other departments ON YOUR OWN TIME doesn't seem to help either.
Overall compensation for your work
Each position has a monetary cap regardless of the time spent in that position. No cost of living increase. No additional vacation time given. No established path for promotion or advancement.
My boss especially is pushed far beyond reasonable expectations, and in turn occasionally pushes others too far.
Absolutely. I run 80% of my department on my own. I'm the last person to inspect our product before being delivered to the customer. I'm expected to keep standards very high and maintain a weekly production schedule. No I'm not a manger/supervisor.
