Poor. Managing partners are god on high and nobody dares to contradict them.
Support from management
Very poor. The IT systems, especially software applications in general are very out of date and poor quality. Since maintaining them is almost impossible management occasionally offers up a sacrificial lamb to the higher ups, because they don't have any way of fixing the system at large.
Most of the team is OK. The truly great ones have left, the truly bad ones are fired, what's left is the middle. Won't rock the boat, but getting other teams to do stuff is pretty hard. CYA is life at FBD.
Freedom to work independently
some IT people can WFH one day a week. You will be micro managed however, so it's not great.
Terrible. Nearly all communication is based around CYA.
Seemed ok to me.
Attitude towards older colleagues
No issues here.
Training is "offered" but in my experience the budget dries up before even half the people can get anything approved.
Overall compensation for your work
Points for decent pay here. The non monetary benefits are meh, but the pay is actually OK.
Office / Work Environment
not openly hostile or anything, but it's pretty bad. Nobody wants to get involved where they don't have to.
Beyond horrible. If you are in IT, you are on-call 24/7/365. Maybe not on paper, but in practice you sure are. Life events matter not, and every problem is a 5-alarm fire, no exceptions for sanity or reality.
It's a lawfirm
Firing people to make a statement to management that they are doing something about systemic issues is the norm here. If you aren't lawyer, watch your back.
Seemed fine to me, but I don't use it so I probably don't know what to actually look for.
It's a law office, nothing too dangerous or out of place.
If keeping 20 year old software running in a "modern" environment is your idea of challenging, sure, it is that.
Inclusive / Diverse
They actually do pretty well here. Lots of women and minority hires. Not a boys club, at least in the lower levels.
Suggestions for improvement
- People are burned out, and the current situation is untenable.
What I like about the company
The pay was good.
What I dislike about the company
IT has no say in how things are run, and what applications are purchased and used. Out of date, deprecated, and plain unsafe software is in use and you are expected to "make it work" no matter what. Information Security is not taken seriously, and saving face before the partners is paramount.
