Suggestions for improvement

  • Allow phone reps to participate fully in Educational and informational seminars. Get away from having customer service be so metrics driven.

What I like about the company

They have a great cafeteria with lots of healthy optipns. There is an onsite state of the art gym. The benefits are generous. They allow seasoned associates to work from home

What I dislike about the company

Phone reps aren't able to participate fully in all the great educational and informational seminars because they won't let you get off the phones. Very rigid metrics driven culture. If you get a less than perfect call evaluation, they count it against you even if all you did was transfer the call. Only some individuals get stock options, instead of offering them to all associates. It's random and they won't share how the decision is made. Although the co.encourages diversity and tolerance in expressing gender, cultural differences, etc, you aren't allowed to talk about God, politics, or even say the word gun lest someone get their feelings hurt.

Suggestions for improvement

  • One improvement Fidelity recently made is to allow associates to provide feedback to their manager via anonymous survey and it is included as part of their review. I (and others) have been asking for this for YEARS to help VPs and SVPs have tangible feedback about how managers manage. Previously managers were rewarded based on project work and likability to those above them. This is a significant improvement that needed to happen long ago. Like other companies, Fidelity has joined the ‘diversity’ discussion. There is great irony when diversity panels and positions have little true diversity in them.

What I like about the company

I have worked at Fidelity for 20 years. They really care about employees and customers. They have a high degree of integrity and firmly believe that treating the customer right is the best long term strategy. I am always proud to tell people I work for Fidelity and people know me as the “Fidelity” guy. I have helped many people get a job with Fidelity because I know they will enjoy it.

What I dislike about the company

As we’ve gotten bigger, some of the family feel has gone away. There were recent layoffs in one group by a newly hired executive that felt very cold to those involved. Previously, there was a strong sense of working to avoid layoffs and doing everything they could to keep people. If layoffs did occur the support and empathy was strong and people impacted really felt like their efforts were valued. There can be bureaucracy and kissing up involved as you move up the ladder.
