There are some "managers" within the company that commend employees but the majority do not and only reward their "friends" with promotions, bonuses, and leeway with mediocre work.
Support from management
There is a huge lack of leadership. No one takes responsibility. Instead they just pass on the buck.
"Teamwork" is a word used often in the office but seems "teamwork" means you just do it but if the outcome is great, then the "team" all worked it. If the outcome is sub-par, then you're the one to blame.
Freedom to work independently
The workload is definitely not distributed fairly in any department of the company. Even knowing how unevenly work is distributed, if you're a bottom leveled employee, you'll be criticized for not handling tasks in a timely fashion.
There is no communication within departments. Miscommunication is a frequent occurrence and reflects poorly on the company.
While there were men in power, there were quite a few women in high ranking positions. Men were not very welcomed in legal though.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Ageism definitely exists within the company. Many of the newly hired would be early to mid twenties. The older hires were few and far in between. Long serving employees were not always treated properly but that relied mostly on how the higher ups felt about you and if you fit into the "clique".
Career development is really all up to how well you fit into the "clique". It does not depend on your hard work. If a supervisor (does not even have to be the supervisor of your dept.) does not like you, you're pretty much limited in growth and learning.
Overall compensation for your work
Compensation and benefits were really good considering the work was pretty simple. The only complaint would be raises would depend more on how much they "like" you as person than how good your work product is.
Office / Work Environment
The office is always cold but seeing how hot the weather can be in Miami, it is welcomed. The computers are decent. Unfortunately, unless you're a department head, you'll be stuck in a cubicle and able to hear every conversation around you.
Socially aware is definitely not a phrase I would use since the only topics discussed would be food and celebrities. Brain cells commit suicide on a daily basis.
Work-life balance is pretty great. It's all dependent on the individual. There were not issues regarding vacation or sick days. Overtime was not required for some departments but other departments required it due to workload/lack of manpower.
If its within company walls and HR is around, sure, everyone loves the company. But if its outside the office and a casual setting among a few decent co-workers, the real opinions come out. No one is happy there and will leave the company as soon as they have another position lined up or jump ship to another network (AMC, NBC, etc) if their friend gets them the "hook up".
There is no job security there unless you're part of an elite job. Positions are created for "friends". Positions are eliminated for those newly created ones. Budgets have been getting tighter and many long-standing employees were terminated.
Elevators were available within the building and bathrooms provided accessibility.
For the most part, the working conditions did apply with OSHA standards. Though there were the occasional wires and water spots (due to negligence of employees) you'd have to watch out for.
The work was not always challenging. It was pretty routine but there was always a sense of accomplishment.
Inclusive / Diverse
Depending the department, diversity and inclusive behavior was pretty good. Legal was not one of those departments.
Suggestions for improvement
- My suggestions would be to find more qualified people to be leaders and managers. The offices are overflowing with corrupt and petty people in high positions. The company is under a "clique" type management. The company has hard workers who go unnoticed and are stifled due to not being "liked" and roadblocked by someone else who is in the "clique". Many mediocre employees succeed within the company due to nepotism and sabotaging other employees.
What I like about the company
As an employer, FLAC provided the right compensation for my financial needs at the time.
What I dislike about the company
As an employer, FLAC lacked the leadership and integrity that a worldwide company should have.
