Support from management
That varies by department and how much a supervisor or manager micro manages. Ive had several types of managers. Good, bad, and awful within my department.
Some personalities didn't mesh well but that's true for any job. Overall, we worked well as a team within our department and even neighboring departments.
Freedom to work independently
My direct supervisor was awful. Unless you were an older employee with more experience, you were given the 3rd degree, micro managed and criticized.
I think there is always room for improvement with communication so I can only rate a 4. Froedtert wasnt perfect with this but much more efficient than other companies I have worked for.
Attitude towards older colleagues
My answer is neutral because older colleagues in my department were given the benefit of the doubt quite often even if they were doing something wrong, against policy or general department rules. They were not held to the same standards as the younger employees.
I advanced my career by getting board certified but was told that I still wasnt demonstrating that specific knowledge. That makes no sense when I passed the boards.
When I tried to take on more certifications, develop programs or be involved in programs or committees, she would not allow me to participate as she thought I should keep "focusing on your skills".
Overall compensation for your work
I got a new job that paid me $1.25 more an hour for the same exact job.
I worried about this for years with my direct boss because she was always telling me I needed to advance my career. I became board certified in a specific area and she still would tell me that I wasnt demonstrating basic competency of a level 2 clinician. Even though I was certified, she claimed I was functioning at a level 1 clinician. A new grad is considered level 1. I have 10 years experience in my field and 8 years in my certified specialty. Therefore, I was a level 2 but she was the only one in the department that said I was demonstrating at a level 1. My fellow co workers disagreed with her as well as the doctors I worked with. But she still thought otherwise. Awful boss!
Suggestions for improvement
- Get rid of the supervisor in the Hand Center so she stops harassing and critizing others to the point of anxiety, fear and an uncomfortable work environment.
What I like about the company
They actually care about their employees by showing appreciation with snacks, rewards, monetary rewards, nomination.
What I dislike about the company
I don't dislike anything about the company, only my former supervisor and her lack of practical supervisory skills.
