GEICO does a very good job overall of making its employees feel that they are part of a unified culture and of making the work environment fun and stimulating.
Support from management
we receive regular training reinforcement
employees are grouped in pods in which communication is easy
Freedom to work independently
employees are encouraged to think for and problem-solve themselves
Regular unit meetings and supervisor / employee meetings accomplish this very well
there are many women in mid-level management but few in the upper echelons
Attitude towards older colleagues
in my department it's mostly younger people, the job can be stressful
adult education for the purposes of career advancement is made possible and strongly encouraged
Overall compensation for your work
I make a good living, especially for missouri
Office / Work Environment
the chairs are very comfortable
recycling barrells by all the printers
I work a strict 40 hours and get to leave my work at the office
I think GEICO is ethical and fair and provides something people need
I've been a GEICO employee for 15+ years and a supervisor for 8+ years
yes total handicapp access to any floor
most of the "accidents" that occur are stress-related health episodes, and mostly in the sales dept.
Even after working for GEICO for 15+ years I encounter challenging and stimulating situations on a regular basis
Inclusive / Diverse
there are systems in place that encourage ideas and feedback by employees
Suggestions for improvement
- GEICO should be more lenient with regard to employee fraternization situations, involving superiors and subordinates.
What I like about the company
GEICO frequently offers bonuses for continuing education in the business and insurance fields, it makes continued education classes available on-site, it offers frequent and thorough group training meetings, new employee training is 2 and 1/2 months before even being put on the phones, generally speaking the supervisory and management staff is knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and insightful. The work environment is fun and energetic.
What I dislike about the company
In some aspects GEICO seems to care more about upselling to customers than making them happy. Dealing with the public can be stressful, and employee turnover is high.
