- General Electric Company29.Apr 2019
My team works well together, we like our direct manager.
Support from management
My manager offers support when needed, or directs me to more appropriate resources.
The company expects employees to work as a team to accomplish the requirements of the business.
Freedom to work independently
The company expects employees to work autonomously, but sometimes I feel big brother looking over my shoulder.
The company communicates high level business information well, but at times withholds information leaving employees to make key decisions without all the pertinent information.
There are a number of women and minorities in key leadership positions.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Sometimes older, more experienced employees have been passed over for younger up and coming employees for leadership positions.
Due to financial issues in our company prospects for growth opportunities have been significantly diminished.
Overall compensation for your work
I feel well compensated for the work that I do.
Office / Work Environment
Our roof leaks every time it rains. There are times when the environmental control systems do not keep up
We did have a recycling program, but recently due to cost cutting this was abandoned.
The. company leaves some of this
Recent events at our location have diminished my loyalty to my employer.
My company is ceasing operations at my location. No position is safe
There are resources for handicap accessibility.
Management makes safety the first and most important priority. Safety plans are in place to prevent injury when employees follow instruction properly.
Our work can be challenging at times, but a lot of repetitive type activity as well.
Inclusive / Diverse
There is a great deal of diversity in our workplace in terms of ethnicity and sexual identity
Suggestions for improvement
- I have no suggestions at this time. There have been too many wrong and untimely decisions made at the executive level that the company may not be able to recover. The company did take the action that I thought was needed by removing and replacing the CEO, and shaking up the board of directors. There was a housecleaning that was needed.
What I like about the company
I have enjoyed my job and working with the people in my group. I feel I have a lot to offer my employer. Unfortunately my employer has decided to cease production operations at my location and move the product to an off-shore location. Some of my group will be impacted by this action. The moral in the building is at an all-time low. While I may have employment after the final closure, I am concerned that my position will ultimately be eliminated and moved to a centralized function in the next 2-3 years. I also have concern about the success of moving the product to the new location.
What I dislike about the company
The previous executive management team left this company in dire financial condition. The company is in a mode of desperation, selling off assets and closing locations with seemingly reckless abandon. The company was once a strong, world-class operation, but many programs initiated by the company have been done so at its detriment. It is not the powerhouse it used to be, nor does it have the breadth it once had. The world market has lost confidence in the company, the stock has lost over 60% of its value.
