- GE19.Feb 2019
It is a good company but very tough. Confidence in abilities and is primo to success. Goals are constantly moving.
GE is no place for wimps. It is hard and the people there are harder.
Support from management
Yes, management always supported me.
Not even close. My co-workers were icy cold save one or two were friendly, honest in a constructive manner.
Freedom to work independently
Yes, a lot of trust to work independently.
I worked where there was no feedback on anything. I just worked and worked doing my best not knowing if it was good or bad.
yes, yes, yes.
Attitude towards older colleagues
yes, i think or feel at this moment.
not at all
Overall compensation for your work
I was well paid.
Office / Work Environment
Buiding where i last worked had lousy health and safety but other sites had superior health and safety.
Yes, lots of recycling and minimizing waste.
Only so-so. If there was a deadline then all bets were off.
for some reason, I was proud to work with this company.
not at all. The department got decimated when I and a lot of others were 'let go'.
Yes, yes, yes.
Training at my last site was absolutely poor but other sites that i worked at (same company) were superb.
Very challenging. More than challenging.
Inclusive / Diverse
Heck no. Engineering philsophy only.
Suggestions for improvement
- I'm not even going to answer this question because I have no idea or experience managing a multi-national, billion dollar business. I don't agree with the current sell, sell, sell off all your assets and only concentrate on a few divisions. Well, these divisions that are left are doing poorly and the competition is overtaking GE in many areas. A well diversified company allows ups and downs of divisions and it balances out over time. Just my opinion.
What I like about the company
I learned a lot about myself and how to manage horrible bosses and coworkers. Yes, that is common at GE and I used it to ease my work difficulties. This was indeed a positive experience in the end. Also, I gleaned safety, health, and environment awareness that has helped me greatly. GE is tops, really first rate, in protecting the health and safety of it's workers and the environment. I know that sounds hokey but it's true.
What I dislike about the company
Upper/high level management also is disconnected from the people 'on the ground'. Many times they made decisions that had disastrous results but the proposal for these decisions looked good in a board room.If you are someone who can stand up to others on a daily basis who attack you--not literally but figuratively-- then GE is your place. Not everyone can do that and I learned to deflect that. It made me stronger and earned more respected but it's really disheartening at first.
