Company Culture

This company is culturally respectful. They try their best to accommodate everyone’s cultural needs.

Support from management

Upper management seems to focus on what employees do wrong and never appreciate the hard work of the employees do.

Teamwork

Because of the poor staffing employees cannot help others to get their job done causing increased stress and failure to work well together

Freedom to work independently

Bosses allow staff to do their jobs without hovering over your shoulder.

Internal Communication

Communication is friendly however there always seem to be “the favorites”.

Gender Equality

Discrimination against females is not frequently seen in the workplace

Attitude towards older colleagues

All employees are treated equally

Career Development

Although management may not offer the best training on the job that to tuition reimbursementProgram has been very helpful to advance my education

Overall compensation for your work

Although the pay rate is moderate for the position the amount of work request it is very overbearing and should be the work of at least two people

Office / Work Environment

Many of the utilities are outdated resulting in many technological issues causing decreased work productivity

Environmental Friendliness

Kitchen area waste a lot of product

Work-Life Balance

The staffing issue causes management to beg employees to work extra shifts on a daily basis

Company Image

This company has been promising and has led me to believe job security

Handicapped Accessibility

Facilities are fully handicap accessible

Workplace Safety

Many of the safety equipment used for care is broken and takes a while to be fixed

Challenging Work

Constantly understaffed. Administration continues to expand the workload but does not give anymore help to accomplish the tasks.

Inclusive / Diverse

Management frequently ask for opinions and ways to fix problems but never seem to put our ideas in actions

Suggestions for improvement

  • If shifts were properly staffed it would help the overall tension throughout the building. If people did not feel the stress of having to get everything done they could spend more quality time with patient care and have more personable outcomes

What I like about the company

I have worked with this company for many years now. I started from the very bottom and have slowly made my way towards my goal with the support of my colleagues and supervisors. They stride to see me succeed.

What I dislike about the company

The company seems to put profit before patient care. A major issue is the staffing ratio. They do not have enough help each shift, yet they keep filling the beds as soon as possible.

Company Culture

For the most part, I work with an excellent group of aides and nurses.

Support from management

The support you receive from management differs from day to day.

Teamwork

While they encourage you to be able to work independently, it's also a REQUIREMENT that you be able to 'play well with other'.

Freedom to work independently

Generally speaking, you HAVE to be able to work independently as an aide. You are, of course, supervised by a nurse, but they do trust you to do your work independently, but also expect team work when appropriate and necessary.

Internal Communication

The crew I work with is weekends. We are usually the last to know any changes made and management does not usually seem to take us into consideration when implementing changes.

Gender Equality

The facility I work in is mostly female staff, but I don't feel as if gender comes into play as far as treatment and opportunity.

Attitude towards older colleagues

I rate this at 3 stars simply because while people aged 45 and older are given the same opportunities, they usually have a lot more difficulty keeping pace and therefore tend to not last as long.

Career Development

Other than the TAPS (tuition reimbursement) program, if you're an aide there is no room for professional growth.

Overall compensation for your work

I don't make terrible pay, and I know that I wouldn't make as much anywhere else in my profession. That being said, I think my occupation, in general, given the physical and emotion exertion is totally unpaid.

Office / Work Environment

Most of the time we have what we need to do our jobs. Technologically, I feel we're behind at our facility. We still use paper charting for the aides and I know a lot of other healthcare facilities use computer documentation.

Environmental Friendliness

I think we only have one recycling bin, and so nothing to cut back on energy costs that I'm aware of.

Work-Life Balance

For me at least, this is true. I work 12 hour shifts 3 days per week. I have 4 days off, so it's a wonderful balance. I can't speak for those who work a regular 5 day a week schedule because they get mandated a lot and I'm not sure how much time this allows them with their families.

Company Image

I have mixed emotions on this. Personally, I'm proud of the work I do. I'm proud to work with the group of people I work with. We have a very low star rating at our facility, and I don't understand why we have such a nasty reputation. There are bad seeds in every occupation, but I feel we're rated unfairly and that some people set the bar so high that getting there is not a realistic expectation.

Job Security

We're usually low on staff and have an almost constant influx of new residents. I feel very secure in my position and feel no fear of being laid off or fired.

Handicapped Accessibility

We're a nursing home and rehab facility. Being handicap friendly is absolutely crucial.

Workplace Safety

Given the type of work we do, I feel there are very few work related injuries and that safety is taken seriously.

Challenging Work

I love my job as an aide, however, it requires LONG hours on your feet. More often than not, we are short staffed and the physical labor can be pretty intense.

Inclusive / Diverse

I don't necessarily feel that Genesis values it's lower staff members thoughts, feelings, or opinions.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Better pay. More incentive for new hires to remain with us.

What I like about the company

Most days, in general, are positive. It's almost like working with a family unit because you become so close-knit.

What I dislike about the company

As I said before, it's not JUST with Genesis, but I feel as if aides should make more money. Staffing always seems to be an issue. We have a very high turnover rate and I feel this is partially due to the pay versus what is expected of you.

Company Culture

The local management was horrendous. Corporate jumped into TX without understanding how the TX laws & market worked.

Support from management

My managers are supportive

Teamwork

Corporate was great at this. Local management was terrible

Freedom to work independently

Once I established my ability to get the job done I was trusted

Internal Communication

Corporate was good about this. Local management was terrible. There was a huge disconnect between the two.

Gender Equality

We had mostly women in the workplace

Attitude towards older colleagues

Most of the managers were 40+

Career Development

In my current company I was hired specifically to take over a management role upon the current employee's retirement next year.

Overall compensation for your work

For the position and workload I am paid fairly

Office / Work Environment

I was in an older, very run down building that flooded constantly, had moldy carpets and disgustingly dirty ventilation.

Environmental Friendliness

Local management couldn't care less about the environment

Work-Life Balance

In my case the building's finances were so far behind I was working 10 to 12 hour days and some weekends

Company Image

I no longer work for Genesis. My current employer is very community focused

Job Security

I am being trained to take over a managerial role

Handicapped Accessibility

It was a nursing home so it was very handicap accessible

Workplace Safety

They cut corners, we went three months without hazardous waste pick up because local management wanted to save money.

Challenging Work

The work was not challenging, other than the volume of past due accounts that hadn't been handled

Inclusive / Diverse

Local management was horrible at respecting others

Suggestions for improvement

  • Set better budgeting structure on administrators and follow through on verifying finances. There was too much freedom given to a horrible administrator who knowingly put the welfare of staff and residents at risk. Concerns and reports of her actions were

What I like about the company

Corporate support was phenomenal. The training was terrific and always available.

What I dislike about the company

When there is a known issue with poor local management, handle it appropriately. We lost many great employees because of the mismanagement and poor treatment from the building administrator. She was eventually fired, but she blew through more than a year'
