Genesis Healthcare experience report

  • Employee

toxic environment, high acuity, promises of things getting better, poor training, heavy workload, mandates daily

2.50

Company Culture

Environment is consistently toxic, long time employees are not rewarded for their loyalty, workload is astronomical and not realistic.

Support from management

Some management tries to be of assistance however they have so many duties on their plate it’s virtually impossible

Teamwork

Encouraged but never followed through with, high turnover with management all the way down to housekeeping.

Freedom to work independently

Independent is the only option, very little help available

Internal Communication

Employees left to guess on most things

Gender Equality

Never have seen any gender issues

Attitude towards older colleagues

No prejudice against older employees

Career Development

Company will reimburse tuition after completion of semester

Overall compensation for your work

I have received a .32 raise in three years

Office / Work Environment

During summer air conditioning often broke, temp soaring to 85 plus degrees, lighting in patients room dim, must use natural light of available. Very dusty

Environmental Friendliness

No

Work-Life Balance

NO, continuous mandates 3/12 hour shifts can easily turn into 3/16 hour shifts, employees who have been with company for many years working every single holiday for 12/16 hour shifts

Company Image

I have tried to remain positive and defend our facility however current issues make it almost impossible

Handicapped Accessibility

Yes

Workplace Safety

Not many accidents, however no lift facility, a lot of bariatric patients that have to be lifted, even though against policy. Management well aware

Challenging Work

Nurse to patient ratio 1/30 with high acuity

Inclusive / Diverse

Willing to listen to our ideas, if not in best interest of Genesis healthcare usually not supported

Suggestions for improvement

  • This is covered in my last statement.

What I like about the company

I kept coming back day after day, week after week because of the relationships I’ve built with residents and their families. You become part of their family, the greeting I receive every Monday morning, “I’m so glad your back,” or “I’m so glad you’re there to take care of my mom.” And of course, their smiles light up the room. This facility has a long way to go, I don’t know if it will ever be a positive work environment, but I do know the appreciation I receive from families and residents made my three years there well worth it.

What I dislike about the company

MANDATION AND HOLIDAYS- Working an employee every holiday shows no respect. Mandating staff to the point of driving them to tears, shows no respect. Not to mention a never ending cycle of call offs, mandation, call offs due to mandations and being overworked. Don’t let middle management like schedulers talk down to your employees and make UPPER MANAGEMENT DECISIONS. Don’t let brand new nurses train other brand new nurses. And for goodness sake——SMILE
