Support from management
My manager was strong, but I noticed a trend of not pushing back on hiring managers, clients and top leadership when unreasonable timelines and job openings needed to be realistically qualified before and during job search sequences, and thus, adding to wasted productivity and “opportunity” time for recruiters.
Dependent on branch and location team structure. Recruiters and Business Development are dependent upon each other for success, and my branch location had a highly toxic BD Manager that emotionally hijacked our team with anger and attitude outbursts.
Freedom to work independently
Loved this aspect of the role and the creativity that the organization was trying to promote from its staff.
All around okay, however there is a key gap between HR operations and recruiting and unfortunately it affected onboarding of contractors, who would lean heavily on the recruiters to perform operations functions. HR would not call contractors, instead electing on passive emails which are not nearly as effective as picking up the phone.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Loved my colleagues and the newer manager brought positive energy, but a Sr. manager was highly passive aggressive and it affected the mood of the office.
Growth dependent on sales numbers.
Overall compensation for your work
Strong compensation - above market average for a staffing agency
Office / Work Environment
Loved my team with the exception of a business development manager with passive aggressive anger management issues. (He was demoted from director, leading to continued friction). When something gets physically broken at least once every 1-2 weeks in the office because of a deal or candidate falling off, it becomes a major issue with trust and communication. Losses and “no’s” are the nature of our business and it should be taken with “lessons learned” approach, not violence.
Awesome recruiting colleagues, management was nice when they were winning, some sweethearts and some toxic teammembers, candidates are a mix which is normal.
Personal life is non-existent in order to hit extremely high-bar performance sales and recruiting placement metrics.
What you out into it, is what you get out.. all dependent on how strong the account/business development managers are at bringing in business that is realistically “closeable”.
NA for our office, but it could be setup with no burden on the employer.
Strong security and protocols in place.
IT Agency recruiting is extremely challenging, and can be highly rewarding with the right approach, determination and time sacrifices.
Inclusive / Diverse
Across the organization it looked appropriate, however, my office consisted of all white, male, younger to middle aged, type A personalities.
Suggestions for improvement
- Have the courage to say NO to, or push back on clients with unreasonable job requisition and compensatory expectations for their upcoming hires. Please offer a better fringe benefits package, the package is a joke with no 401k match and minimal med/dent/vision - yes we all know, it’s a trend with companies these days. Also, include the recruiters on a pre-qualification procedure BEFORE assigning them to the undesirable/unplaceabke job openings that might need key details provided to recruiter and candidate, in order to conduct an accurate search for the right talent on a given role or program. Also, please stop over metricizing and micro managing ... paralysis by analysis.
What I like about the company
I thoroughly enjoyed working with my close recruiting colleagues, engaging with candidates, placing people in roles that were great for both the client and themselves, as well as this...the compensation possibilities are very strong with the company.
What I dislike about the company
Over emphasis on certain metrics, toxic passive aggressive management in some areas, lack of openness to process and communicative improvement in my particular office location.
