Suggestions for improvement

  • Allow store managers to manage their business without the constant micro management of the District Management. Schedules: Allow stores to conform their schedules to their needs and the DM can provide insight as needed. Staffing: Allow stores to hire their own teams Corporate Support needed to help with retail hiring. Only help you receive is some paper job fair flyers. Should be more global resources and opportunities for employees to apply online on the website rather than have to get a paper copy at the store. Managers: Allow more flexibility with staffing and work/life balance.

What I like about the company

They offered a generous employee discount as well as samples to try for incoming new products. Health and Dental Plans were generous.

What I dislike about the company

District Management tends to micro manage the store activities. Always last minute emails about new updates. Weekly conference calls that can take more than an hour and often don't focus on the core issues. Virtually every process has to be approved by the district manager. All new hires have to be second interviewed by the DM and approved. Emails are often restricted to filter through the DM to other peers. Any Employee performance issues have to have approval from the DM and HR before proceeding and can often take weeks for resolution. Processes are cumbersome. New hire paperwork has to be FAXED to corporate and can be 15 pages or more. Schedules are expected to be submitted a month in advance even through the store teams may not have the financial numbers until the beginning of the new month. Floor sets requires pictures to be sent to the DM. Operational issues have to be surfaced to the DM and than to corporate. An AC issue could be weeks for resolution. Employees are expected to have open availability even when we don't have hours to support. Managers required to work every Friday and Saturday unless time off was approved. Managers are expected to work every holiday, including Christmas Eve.
