Occasionally people receive feedback or praise. Typically you recieve neither until you make an error then management is very upset. Only the floor staff gets reviewed and praised even though it's rare. A lot of times staff must deal with upper management moods.
Support from management
Not a company that takes time to develop from the inside. Promote you with expectations and no support.
Not everyone can help out because business is always bare bones. So no one can offer support when needed because everyone is overworked.
Freedom to work independently
Everyone is spread thin and is unable to focus on just their own departments. Headquarters and store level alike.
Office managers get meetings floor associates and managers recieve news later or when they ask about an error. Manager meetings are mostly for listening and not speaking up.
On the store level all women are managers. But the offices are full of mostly men and a handful of women.
Attitude towards older colleagues
I have not noticed any discrimination of age. The offices have many men who are over 45 and a few women.
The company offers no development. There are only expectations without support. High turnover. Depends on who your sales floor manager is. Some of them have experience in development but the majority do not and are not trained to do so.
Overall compensation for your work
Office staff is well paid. You may even hear higher ups telling you about a new bmw, Iwatch ir vacation. Managers are paid a bit below what they should be but make a significant amount more than floor staff. Floor staff makes a bit over minimum but the training for floor staff is more in depth and intense then other retail and people often leave due to late hours and pay checks not matching work done. Staff often bare bones. Benefits are expensive and weak but offered.
Office / Work Environment
Most things are fairly up to date but some stores have no heat/air and all store locations deal with the violence of the city and theft. We have computers but thy tend to freeze or crash but it is a smaller business.
This company is very focused on the environment and human and animal rights. One could say they treat their customer and community much better than staffing. A lot of people stay on because of the help they get to provide.
Store working hours can go to 10pm or midnight. Managers have company cell phones and salaried staff are expected to use pto and sick time for even an hour missed. No matter how many hours you've worked previously that pay period. It cuts staff vacation time and people get burned out faster and are treated poorly for not complying even under one hour for one week of the year.
Most employees talk poorly about the company in all areas. A handful of people try to keep people positive but it is difficult.
Company appears to make not enough money. Upper management always stressed about losing money and tells all company about it. Makes lower staff stressed about things they need not worry about.
One store has no elevator and has been broken for a while. Most places are on ground level. Offices have elevators and gym.
Most working conditions apply but no training on accident-free work space.
Work is challenging and often done a lone. When you finally are able to complete tasks it feels good. But often sales staff must help office staff with their work. Floor staff almost must cater to offices first.
Inclusive / Diverse
Probably one of the most diverse and gender free workplaces available. But that often keeps people working because other business may treat them weird. Here everyone is equal.
