Worst place to work if you are over 55 years old and educated.
Management had their "group" and didn't worry about others. If you did not speak Spanish and were over 55 year old, you were totally mistreated and considered obsolete.
Support from management
Only if you were one of the "group".
Please see above.
Freedom to work independently
I had to work independently to be successful. Management had no time, money or assistance for the 3 centers I was in charge of.
Only the "group" got the correct information, training, supplies and extra help during day to day operations and job fairs.
Attitude towards older colleagues
At the time I worked for Goodwill they were stating they were placing people into positions and giving back with training's. I you would walk into a career center and ask for a bus ticket to get to work, they would have you sign into their system, create an account and then would place that as a job placement on their behalf. Numbers were altered to their favor and they never truly assisted SCSEP participants with job placement. That is why the grant was taken away from them and given to AARP.
Overall compensation for your work
Bad compensation and raises were given for merit.
Office / Work Environment
I was never given the additional assistance needed to operate my career centers and/or job fairs. Management always had a closed ear on suggestions and/or any problems that needed to be addressed.
Definitely no over time. Once had a client go into a diabetic coma in my career center and by the time the ambulance got there and everything was done it was past 5:00pm. I got written up for not closing on time and told that for no reason should the career center be opened past 5 pm.
I was always be asked when I was going to retire and/or District Manager would come in with bizarre accusations. When I would request more information I was told "no" but would then be told that my job was on the line.
One of my centers was attached to the outlet stores. The neighborhood is pretty bad, high in drugs and crime. There was no security guard on the facility and the only cameras they had were in the store protecting their sales items.
Working without any assistance and/or funds. Lot's of diversity with the customers, strengthens your "drive" because you are truly working on your own to successfully assist these customers. I traveled between career centers located in 3 different cities and never was paid mileage. When I was hired on, nothing was said to me about becoming a travelling career services manager.
Inclusive / Diverse
If you are over 55+ you weren't considered for any advancement nor training's.
Suggestions for improvement
- Get rid of your upper management. Secret shop the career centers and experience what the quality of services you will get. Pay according to education and experience and get rid of the "good ole boy" syndrome.
What I like about the company
Really nothing and I'm so happy that past employee's have been taking this establishment to court for age discrimination, sexual advances, etc. The public needs to know.
