The culture of the overall college is probably closer to a 4 - but in my particular department I'd give it a 3.
Support from management
My current management team is very supportive and helps me to get things done.
In most departments, this rating would probably be better, in our department this is significantly lacking.
Freedom to work independently
My supervisors have always been hands-off leaders, while still being available to help when needed. This is one of the college's stronger areas.
There is a lot of talk around open communication with employees but it is sometimes not enforced.
Women are always treated equally here and have the same opportunities.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Many employees stay here well past 45, even past retirement age, and are always treated with respect and given many opportunities.
I feel that I have a clear career path ahead of me and plenty of room for growth under my current management.
Overall compensation for your work
Compared to similar roles, the compensation is much lower. This is something I knew coming in to the position and have accepted for the work environment.
Office / Work Environment
The main campus is a very comfortable work environment, but some of the satellite buildings are poor working environments. Poor air quality, ceilings leaking, etc.
Recycling is available in all of the buildings.
Everybody at the college promotes work-life balance.
I love the overall culture of the company and am proud to be a part of it.
Overall I feel that my position is stable.
Accessibility is important to the college and they have many resources available.
OSHA training is provided to the departments who need it, but I'm not sure about other departments.
The work is somewhat challenging in some aspects but in other areas leaves room for growth.
Inclusive / Diverse
Diversity is one of the college's strong points.
Suggestions for improvement
- I think the company should take a very close look at which departments are expanding and growing and which ones are remaining the same. Some departments that haven't expanded in a while need to be looked at more closely because they need additional help to keep up with the demands of the college.
What I like about the company
The culture of the college is very employee-driven and there is a lot of support from other employees. In every department there is plenty of room for movement and advancement within the college. Full tuition reimbursement is one of the biggest perks, and it applies either to classes at Goodwin or any of several participating Consortium schools. There is an emphasis on professional development which I believe Goodwin supports.
What I dislike about the company
The college has continued to grow exponentially, but some areas have not grown proportionately. Additional people may be needed to continue the growth curve the college is on. The compensation in many departments is far below the average rate.
