No one seems to have much enthusiasm

Support from management

If not their invention, it is not supported.

They tend to low ball the offer, then never make it up. Classic bait and switch.

For a small company it seems to be highly compartmentalized

Going down hill fast. Used to be a market leader, now it's poor quality and unchanging products.

Job Security

Layoffs, layoffs, layoffs, and more layoffs. The products don't sell, and there is nothing different in the pipeline.

Challenging Work

Old industry. Basic technology. No interest in anything new.

  • Replace top management.

Company Culture

Powerplays and Back-Biting is a very popular hobby among the management. Everyone is striving to be the President's favorite. Very much a "Child's Playground" atmosphere.

Support from management

Leadership consists of "Yes men" who just say what the President want to hear. Any thinking outside of "That's the way we've always do it" mentality is dismissed.

Teamwork

Teamwork among labor is good, but problem that involves management is a problem. No one in management will support you when it's required.

Freedom to work independently

Labor seems balanced but Engineering is a "Favorites" game.

Internal Communication

Company meetings happen once a year. Most all information is transmitted via rumors. Very little pertainint imformation is communicated to employees (unless they are doing something wrong).

Attitude towards older colleagues

Length of employment means nothing. Employees that have long terms or history at the comopany can be dismissed at any time. The is no effort to preserve the basic knowledge base.

Career Development

Further education is not paid for or encouraged. Career advancement is non-existent. You stay in the position that you are hired for and there is no movement or progression.

Overall compensation for your work

Salaries are on the Low Side and although they tout their medical benefits, you will find out how lousy they are when it comes time to use them.

Office / Work Environment

The temperature in the building tends to be very hot or very cold. A great deal of the hourly staff keep heaters under their work stations in the summer and winter.

Work-Life Balance

Vacation/personal days are earned. Failure to give proper notice for time off results in disciplinary action.

Company Image

No one ever stays late or has the desire to stay late. Working "Above and Beyond" what is required will not be rewarded or recognized.

Job Security

There is "ZERO" job security here. At one point they eliminate 50% of the entire staff in less than two years. Finances are Micro-managed daily. If the income level drops, they don't hesitate to "clear" some floor space.

Workplace Safety

There is no requirement for safety glasses although people are operating machines with potential for injury. A great deal of the assembly work involves "striking tools", which are prone to throw dislodged parts. Once again, no glasses. Safety shoes are not required as they should be for most of the areas.

Challenging Work

Most of the Engineering work is updating the current "dated" product. Most documentation for current products is non-existent (Engineering and Manufacturing). It seems that nothing is ever put together the same way twice. Most products can only be assembled by certain individuals, since they remember how to do it from the previous product run.

Inclusive / Diverse

This is strickly a "Friends of Friends" business. A lot of people, especially labor are related in some way.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Hire a President who knows how to run a company and who has run a Engineering/Manufacturing company before. This business is operated as an After-thought by a small group of "Favorites" that are only interesting in their well being. It may be easier to sell the company to a group that's interested in making it successful and taking care of their employees.

What I like about the company

There is nothing positive going on here. Every day is an "uphell battle" to accomplish anything. Unwilling to try anything new or spend money and upgrades to improve the current products or methods.

What I dislike about the company

A family run business that is overseen part-time by a family member that has NO experience in the Engineering/Manufacturing field. The other family members employed there just seem to be "riding out the clock". This is seen by the rest of the company and sets the tone for the entire factory.

Company Culture

There is more than enough blame to go around. Anyone with any authority spends more time creating an "Exit strategy" as opposed to making a decision and taking responsibility for it.

Support from management

Management will always cover themselves at the expense of Labor. Everything ir reactive and blame gets "pushed down the chain".

Internal Communication

Company meeting once a year. Communication is strickly rumor driven. Certain individuals (managers) have made a career of "Stirring the Pot" among the hourly help to distract attention from their own failures.

Career Development

There is no development or internal promotion. No culture to excel. No training benefits (school or otherwise).

Overall compensation for your work

Compensation is average at best for upper-end employees. Labor is on the lower-end.

Office / Work Environment

Safety is a secondary issue at best. No safety glasses or footwear. Emplyee minor injury is not uncommon.

Environmental Friendliness

A large portion of the help keep portable heaters under their work stations. In the summertime, it gets very warm.

Company Image

It's a niche business and it's almost managed as a "Get rich quick" scheme. There are no long term goals, only dealing with the "Day to Day" micro-management.

Job Security

This company has eliminated better than 50% of it's workforce in less than two years. I don't see them surviving much longer. Not exactly sure how they've lasted this long.

Workplace Safety

I'm sure if OSHA took a walk through the facility and took a good look, the doors would be closed for a while until they were in compliance on multiple issues.

Challenging Work

People are expected to perform. The philosophy is that you are lucky to be employed.

Inclusive / Diverse

Opinions are unwelcome and unwanted. Money and Delivery ALWAYS come first. Ship it today and worry about the consequences tomorrow.

Suggestions for improvement

  • Get rid of the entire mangement team. This place is only a "Hobby" for some as they are also employed elsewhere and this is a part-time position. This is a family-owned company and unfortunately a family-run business. The family at this point in time sees this as a "Distraction", and they would rather be somewhere else, doing something else. This in difference effects the entire company and morale. The wrong people are in the wrong positions and the higher up the chain you go, the more people are unqualified for their job. Too much personal pandering and "Buddy-Buddy" buisness going on behind the scenes. The company should be steered by a career professional, not a relative that's only concerned with his own welfare at the expense of everyone else.
