Mechanical Engineer experience
Edgy at times, but good teamwork among the troops
Support from management
All depends on which manager!
Usually the teamwork is tight
Freedom to work independently
With the given hierarchy, independent work is rare
Not the most reliable, often those needing to know...they don't & are aren't told
Maybe in rare instances in engineering, but as a rule, no.
Attitude towards older colleagues
Not as a rule, but not completely untrue.
There are some roads to advancement, but they aren't all that common.
Overall compensation for your work
Pay is right about average or just above, but the monthly bonus, when paid, is a nice perk...but the bonus used to be quite a bit more than years past
Office / Work Environment
So-so on this one, could be better, could be worse
Seems to be a 'wave-of-the hand' level of effort on being eco-buddies, like going through the motions
Yeah, they say that. Like most companies, this is a buzzword & no quite practiced. Funny how 'work' comes first, right?
World leader, greatly improved quality, made in USA image is something to be proud of
Machine tool market is fickle, there have been layoffs and there will be more, nature of the beast, so you're never on totally stable ground working there
Basic needs are taken care of for office folks
Safety is taken seriously
Work is challenging enough to keep it interesting, but maybe it's the personalities and culture that are what's really challenging.
Inclusive / Diverse
Suggestions for improvement
- See if the infighting between managers can be solved
What I like about the company
Interesting work, varied projects, dedicated staff in all departments, pretty much the last survivor of machine tools in America, owner is very involved
What I dislike about the company
Not enough transparency in communication, bad relationships between managers that can adversely effect project success in timely manner
