Employees are treated horrible, micromanaged, short staffed, and blamed for everything.
Support from management
Every plan is half baked and when employees quickly point out the holes in the plan it is never fixed. They use catch phrases like "continuous improvement" to mean no fix!
The only good thing is that everyone is in the same sinking ship and try to help each other out as much as possible.
Freedom to work independently
Managers are not in the field with their people. This is good and bad. They aren't there but have no ideas what challenges you face everyday.
There is no communication to speak of.
Attitude towards older colleagues
You can't always tell who you can trust but everyone tries to help out.
There simply is no career development. The company is happy to hire outside to fill its management roles. Upward movement is the rarity.
Field Techs are never home. Leave Monday get back Friday work all weekend off the clock to be caught up and get yelled at for all overtime and needed administrative time.
It is preached that everyone is expendable. Those you think will get fired never do while those that try and make a positive impact get the boot out the door!
Work is challenging and given that you are not given the training, tools, time, or parts you need it is exceedingly so.
Suggestions for improvement
- Listen to your Technicians they literally fix things for a living and can see the flaws in your plans. Listen to your senior employees they have seen your mistakes more than once. Listen to your customers or they will continue to leave. Listen and change.
What I like about the company
You are surrounded by highly trained and intelligent people who are trying to do their best. They don't receive that training at Hach they come with it.... and eventually they leave with it because you can't take it anymore.
What I dislike about the company
Management is completely out of touch with their employees. Goals are not obtainable and are actually set so that bonuses are not obtainable either. If someone hits their quota they will actually increase their quota so they don't hit their mark. People are forced to work off the clock. This is the worst company that I have ever worked for!
